Thread: Album Artist for WMA files

Default Album Artist for WMA files

    Hi,

I am evaluating Mezzmo on my WHS 2011.
All seems to work well so far but help would be appreciated on the following topic:

All my music files contain an Artist and an Album Artist field.
When I open the playlist "Album Artist", I can see all my "album artists" , but some simple "artists" are also listed

    My first analysis shows
    - that the mistaken "artists" are all metadata of WMA files
    - that those WMA files all contain a valid "Album Artist" field (mainly "Various Artists") (seen via Windows Explorer file property tabs)

Is there any configuration tip that I missed ?

    Hi,

I'm seeing the same (I believe) issue in 2.5, which I'm currently evaluating. I've come over to Mezzmo from TVersity because they have the same issue (and have had for some time), which is intriguing in itself.

Using a tag editor I verified that, for a specific compilation album, Album Artist definately contains 'Various Artist' for all songs on the album, with Artist containing the actual track artist. However, when the media is viewed through Mezzmo in WMP12, and I drill down Mezzmo/Music/Album, I'm presented with an album for each track because WMP12 is receving the data that exists in the ID3 Artist field as the Album Artist. I hope I make sense?

Happy to perform any troubleshooting required.

    Running Mezzmo 2.5 on Server 2008 R2.

EDIT: Just noticed this was WMA - I'm experiencing this on MP3s. I've also just noticed that WMP (being an MS product...) ignores all playlist information and displays it's own generated playlists - so all the intelligence in your software appears to be discarded. The problem still persists that I believe the Artist text is being served up in the Album Artist field however.

    Thanks.

You are right - unfortunately WMP uses its own playlists and ignore ours.

You can check the Album Artist entries in your Mezzmo library. Right-click on a file in Mezzmo and click Properties. The Properties dialog will display the Album Artist edit box. You can edit it as you wish to see the effect in WMP.
