Question Subtitle problems in Panasonic Viera TC-L42U30A

    Hi!

I have many problems to see subtitles in my Panasonic Viera TC-L42U30A

MKV, MP4,.or any other format except AVI, I can't see subtiles. And with a few AVI also have problems.

    I use Mezzmo v2.6.3.0

    For example:
    The AVI file is:
    Video: DivX 3 Low-Motion
    Audio: 0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3 - 48000Hz 192 kb/s, Stereo
    Subtitle Type: MicroDVD (*.SUB)
I also test Subtitle Type: SubRip (*.SRT)

This file streamed from mezzmo in the TV looks like this:

    No subtitle option available.

If I copy this AVI file to a pendrive with subtitles and test on the TV works fine with subtitles, and looks like this:

What can I do? Is there an option in ffmpeg.exe to make something compatible with my TV?

    Thanks!!

Panasonic Viera TVs only display external subtitle files for DivX files, so that can explain why you don't see them for your MP4, MKV, etc. files. Its a Panasonic Viera firmware restriction and nothing we can do about it.

For your AVI/DivX file, it should work. Make sure the SRT is in the same folder as your AVI/DivX file and has the same name (e.g. c:\videos\inception.avi and c:\videos\inception.srt). If you added the SRT into the folder after adding the AVI into your Mezzmo library, then you will need to maintain the folder for Mezzmo to pick up the SRT file. Right-click on the playlist/folder in Mezzmo and click Maintain Playlist.

Another reason may be the SRT file may be the wrong format, encoding or corrupted. Perhaps rename another SRT just to see if that works.

If you still have problems, send us the SRT file to support [at] conceiva [dot] com and we'll test it here with our Viera.

    Thanks for the reply...

As you can see in the snapshots, the problem is the transcoded video, not the subtitles.

The transcoded video was send by Mezzmo in an unsupported Viera format. So, the TV donīt try to get subtitles. (A huge limitation of this TV model)

I think the key is that Mezzmo must convert all video and audio in a standard divx/mp3, so, Viera could display subtitles. Personally, I donīt care if I loose quality, the subtitles are more important. Or if it is possible, ffmpeg embed subtitles with the video, that could be awesome.

Understand better now - thanks. Contact us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com and we'll provide a device profile for you to try. In your email, please note what device profile you are using for your TV (go to Media Devices dialog in Mezzmo to see this).

Hey I found a solution to this... change extensions of all your non avi files to '.avi', get the srt file in the folder with the same file name as of the video, next open mezzmo head to transcoding settings and turn off transcoding for all files. And whoila ! I have subtitles for all files Cheers
