Thread: SRT subtitles problem and Asus O!Play BDS-700

Default SRT subtitles problem and Asus O!Play BDS-700

    Hi all,

I've purchased the Asus player a few days ago and I am trying to use it together with mezzmo 2.6.3.0 trial version. One thing I can not get to work are the subtitles. All are SRT format, all are placed in the same directory as the movie/video file, and all have the same name as the movie/video file.

The player supports external subtitles in srt (among some other) format. Embedded subtitles in mkv files work.

I bypass all the transcoding in mezzmo. The device profile is Generic Device (PAL).

Has anyone tried this combination (Asus+mezzmo) and got the subtitles to work? Thanks.

Try changing the device profile to 'Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101'. Go to the Media Devices dialog in Mezzmo to do this.

If still no success, it's best we see a set of logs. Please turn on logging (see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread...nostic-logging) and restart your Mezzmo server. Connect to Mezzmo from your Asus. Stream a video that has an accompanying subtitle SRT file. When no subtitles display, stop your Mezzmo server and zip up the logs and send them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

I've just tried the other profile and the subtitles still do not work. I made the log and sent it. I hope something comes out of it.

Thanks - got your logs & have analyzed them.

I can see that Mezzmo has found your .SRT files and is presenting them to your Asus Oplay in the correct DLNA/UPnP manner, but your Asus Oplay is never requesting them. This suggests that your Asus Oplay does not support external subtitles over DLNA/UPnP. I did a quick internet search and can see that the Oplay does support popular external subtitle files, but based on user complaints, it seems to only work over SMB/LAN and not DLNA/UPnP. Perhaps you should ask the Asus customer support team if it does support SRT files over DLNA/UPnP.

Also, some Oplay users of Asus forum reported that you need to press the subtitle button on the remote control to see subtitles. Perhaps you can try this.

Also, check if you have the latest firmware for your Oplay. It seems that there are updates that may help.

Thanks Paul for analyzing the logs. So the problems seems to be on the player side. I only wish Asus support was as quick as you are.

Is there a list of wireless DLNA compatible media player devices that Mezzmo knows for sure that display external subtitles via DLNA without the need of transcoding? I can see that Mezzmo supports the subtitles so now I need the other side. I am still in the money back guarantee period. This is simply a must feature for me.

Sorry - we do not have a list of these devices. Some general guidance though - Sony products typically do not support external subtitles. Panasonic only seem to support external subtitles when streamed with DivX video files. LG and Samsung products do support external subtitles. There are other dedicated media player devices (WD TV Live, Seagate FreeAgent, etc.) as well. I suggest you search the various user forums for these devices and see what owners are saying about their external subtitle support.

Ok, thanks for the answers. Then the last path that remains is subtitles through transcoding. I've tried it briefly and it also fails, i.e. not subtitles are shown. I could also not notice any specific subtitle options. Am I missing something how to enable the subtitles via transcoding?

The current version of Mezzmo does not yet 'burn-in' subtitles into the video so you can see subtitles on DLNA devices that do not support display streaming external subtitles or displaying embedded subtitle channels from video files.

We are developing this feature right now. It will be included in the next major version of Mezzmo (v3.0), which will be released later this year and will be a free upgrade for all registered users.

One workaround for the moment is to burn them in manually - see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread...ith-Philips-Tv for one user's suggested tool to do this.

Ok, thanks for all the info. I will then wait for the the V3.0 and in the meantime use USB to watch videos with subtitles.
