Thread: Issue with accessing library files from server

  1. #1

Default Issue with accessing library files from server

    Please, can someone help

I have enjoyed using Mezzmo from when I purchased it about a month ago and have had no issues with it, but the other day I had to reboot the server and found that Mezzmo had stopped working. The trouble I am experiencing is not that I can't see Mezzmo from my devices (PS3 and PC), it is that I can't see the contents of the library list or the video, music or photo files.

    This is what I have
Mezzmo is working on a Windows 2008 server box

CPU on the server is low running at about <10% and memory is also low

I have checked the following that the following services are turned on automatically
    •DCOM Server Process Launcher
    •Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
    •SSDP Discovery
    •UPnP Device Host

Windows firewall has been switch off on the server to check that it is not interfering with it

•Make sure your computer and DLNA/UPnP device are both connected to your home network. Checked
•The device and the computer running Mezzmo server must be on the same subnet (e.g. the first three numbers of the IP address must be same - e.g. 192.168.1.x). Checked
•Make sure your Mezzmo media server is running. Click the Start Media Server toolbar button in Mezzmo. Checked
•Check your router does not have built-in UPNP turned on, or a built-in firewall turned on. Try turning these setting s off. Reboot your router and PC after making any changes. Checked turned off
•Check your router is not set to use IGMP snooping and turn it off. Reboot your router and PC after making any changes. Checked
•Check your router is not set to use Jumbo Frames and turn it off since your DLNA device may not support Jumbo Frames. Reboot your router and PC after making any changes. No settings
•If you have installed other DLNA media servers (Tversity, etc.) then uninstall them. You may need to uninstall and re-install Mezzmo after this to make sure there's no conflicts. No other servers installed
•In Mezzmo, make sure your DLNA/UPnP device is using the correct device profile. Go to the Media Devices dialog to check/change this.
Unable to see the device in media devices- confess that I deleted them as a try and see if it will rediscover
•In Mezzmo, go to the Media Server Settings dialog and click the Configure Windows Firewall button if it is enabled. Turned it off
•If you are using a firewall on your computer, make sure "MezzmoMediaServer.exe" and the port listed in the Media Server Settings dialog in Mezzmo are not blocked. Also, ports 1900 and 2869 should not be blocked. as above
•If you have Hamachi installed on your computer, it will block Mezzmo and any other DLNA servers. You need to set the "Disable UPnP" option to "Yes" in Hamachi's settings, or uninstall Hamachi.
It is not installed on the computer
•If your network type in Windows is set to Public then the firewall may block Mezzmo. Try changing the type to "Private" (or "Home" or "Work").
Using both PS3 and PC same issue with both

    Log file is attached

Hopefully I have verified the usual suspect, but would be happy to be proven wrong

    Thanks

Do you have Windows Media Services loaded on your 2008 R2 server ? I don't remember if it is requried for loading Mezzmo or not. I know some other DLNA/uPNP servers require it when running on 2008 R2. If you have it running then you have Windwos Media Player on your 2008 R2 server. If so, can Windows Media Player on 2008 R2 see Mezzmo ? If so, then you have a networking issue such as the firewall etc. If not, then the problem is local to your 2008 R2 server and Mezzmo. Also make sure you can ping your 2008 R2 server IP address from your PC and PS3.

    Thanks jbinkley60 for your reply

No I don't have WMS running but I don't recall ever needing it either. WMP comes with Windows 2008 R2 but is not able to stream videos as does windows 7. My PS3 and PC can see Mezzmo just not content in the playlists.
and yes I can ping the IP address.

I would have thought if the PC and PS3 can see the server when searched and find the playlists (video, music and photos) but not the content is would be more to do with the server reading the db ?

I looked at the log and found an error with not being able to fine a pro file but I have rectified this from the backup

    Hi Terrence,

Thanks for the detailed information and log file. The log does not show you connecting to Mezzmo server from your PS3 or PC media player app (it just shows Mezzmo server starting up). Please send us a new set of logs where you restart your Mezzmo server and then select Mezzmo using your PS3 and then browse down to playlists/folders that should contain your files. When your PS3 says the folders are empty, stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo. Zip up all the logs and send them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

By chance, are your files on a NAS drive? One common reason for empty folders/playlists is when you are streaming files from a NAS drive and have not established the right access permissions on your NAS. First, make sure your NAS drive is not in sleeping mode. Next, make sure that Mezzmo and Mezzmo media server has full read access to the NAS drive. You may need to set up a guest account or user account names on your NAS drive with the same names as that you are using Mezzmo on your Windows computer. Let us know how you go.

    Thanks Paul

Will send a new set of logs soon and no I am not using the NAS drive, it is however and always has been on another drive on the computer, but will check that the user set up in the service has access to all the media files and the config files before resending the logs to you.

Turned out that the problem was a corrupted mezzmo.db file, I relocated all the files in to another location on the drive and deleted them from the original location, then restarted the program and the files were recreated and then it all worked.

    added information
I should add it was the shutting down of the server that corrupted the file not the application.
