Exclamation sony bdp-s580 streaming question/vidio audio track streaming problem

so im demoing your product with the intention to buy it if everything works well.

for the most part its ok, except why are mkv's streamed as avi's when the player supports it, and the bigger issue is why do videos with a 48khz aac audio track stream @ 22khz, or even worse, 11khz? this is unacceptable. what can i do to fix this, or is this just a bug/fluke with the dlna of the player?

    someone please help

i have 10 days till the trial expires!

    thx.

    Hi,
the mkv files are streamed natively with the Sony BDP, HT, SMP device profile, the mimetype is set to divx to trick the player into playing the file, otherwise mkv files are not supported by the device. When the Sony BDP starts to play the audio for a file, the rate tends to fluctuate but settles down quickly to the correct rate, Mezzmo is delivering the file without transcoding so it is up to the device to decode it correctly.

the profile is set to Sony BDP, HT, SMP, but how do you set the mime type to divix for mkv? btw, most of my mkv's are h.264 with some that are already divix. the problem is the audio. you are correct that the rates fluctuate, and do eventually level out, but there really isnt a reason for the frequency to be half or less of the original rate. suggestions?

Part (most of) the problem is that Sony has decided to limit the DLNA capabilities of the BDP product line. It is a weird condition since Sony is a huge supporter of DLNA. I believe that the limits were imposed on the products because Sony is also a major content producer. Since it makes both music and movies they have lawyer-ed up. That team keeps telling them how much they are losing to piracy. So they try to make it difficult to use their products. It is kind of strange that companies listen to that kind of bs since one look shows it is a flawed concern. What was the most pirated film in history? Avatar. What was the most successful film in history? You guessed Avatar didn't you? You would be right. In fact all of the most pirated movies turned out to be very successful. If they want to make more money just fire the lawyers = instant profit.
