Thread: Show Only Correct Shared Folder

Default Show Only Correct Shared Folder

Not sure this is possible, as all media servers tend to show all the shared media folders on my WDTV-Live, and this might be a function of that device. But, if it is, I would like to see the application return only the shared folder for the type of media selected in the WDTV-Live.

In other words, when I select "Videos" in my WDTV-Live interface, I would like to see only the "Videos" folder show up, and not the "Music" and "Photos" folders as well.

Actually the WDTV Live does not tell us (the server) what types of files you are trying to browse, so unfortunately we don't really know what mode you are in. Some devices (for example D-Link DSMs) actually do that and we know if you are in photo/music/video mode.

Still, we will look at possible ways to improve this over time.

Thank you for bringing this up!

OK, I'll have to look and see if there's any way for the WDTV-Live to limit the folders it uses. It seems weird that it would have separate menu items for music, pictures and video, and then give you every shared folder available. But I don't see any other configuration items that would limit it.

Yes, most devices group like this and then simply ignore the other types of files. It actually puts more work on the server, since we still have to deliver everything to the device and then the device has to filter out what it doesn't want to show.
