Default Mezzmo 2.7.1 and XBMC 11.0 - problem with progress bar

I have been using Mezzmo for the last year or so on my combination wired / wireless network. In addition to a Samsung TV and an xBox 360, there are several laptops running XBMC 11.0. I have recently noticed that when playing Mezzmo based movies with XBMC, I can no longer control the "progress bar" (the horizontal bar at the bottom with the slider that moves from left to right as the file plays back). If I try to drag the slider to a new position (forward or backward), it simply snaps back to the earlier position as soon as I release the mouse button.

    1. This problem did not occur with XBMC v11 and earlier versions of Mezzmo.
    2. I first noticed the problem after installing Mezzmo v2.7.1, although it could have been introduced earlier.
    3. This problem does not occur when playing the same movie files with XBMC 11 directly.

Is this a known problem? If so, is there a fix or workaround?

    All help appreciated. Thanks.

Please check the Media Devices dialog in Mezzmo that you are using the 'XBMC' device profile for your XBMC-based PCs/laptops.

If no better, please tell us the FFmpeg information on one of the files that has this problem when streamed to XBMC. To do this, right-click on the file in Mezzmo and click' Get FFmpeg Information'.

    Dear Paul,

The device profiles for all laptops running XBMC is "XBMC" and has been from the beginning. Sorry for not mentioning that earlier.

The ffmpeg info for one such movie appears below. Please remember that this problem affects ALL videos that I have tried so far, was totally absent a few months ago.

    Thanks for your help.

Did you check and see if v2.7.1 is transcoding the files and not just streaming them ? I had this problem when Mezzmo was transcoding files to XBMC instead of straight streaming. I have a profile that I use which doesn't transcode any files I have in my preferred format.

If you go to 'Media Devices' and double-click on your XBMC laptop in the list then on the Transcoding tab, uncheck the box for 'Transcode incompatible media files so they can be played on the device' and then click 'OK' and after restarting your Mezzmo media server try playing the file on your XBMC laptop to see if you are able to seek.

I'll be dipped. That was the problem, plain and simple.

I had disabled all transcoding on all devices (except the Xbox) many months ago, but it appears that the updates somehow re-enabled them all. I'll need to be mindful of this in the future.

Anyway, problem solved. Thanks a LOT for the tip.

I have the same issue on my Philips 9000 TV (profile is Philips TV 7000) when running Mezzmo 2.7.1. Progress bar dos not progress. The timing counter at times remains at 00:00 for 10 minutes or so, then suddenly jumps to the realistic passed time. the progress bar however remains at start position

    Hi BeFi,

The typical reason for no duration being displayed on your TV or the progress bar not working while your video is playing is that Mezzmo server is streaming a file that currently is being transcoded on-the-fly. When transcoding, Mezzmo server is unable to tell the device the exact file size of the transcoded file (since the transcoded file is being created). Some devices, like your Philips TV, rely on this file size to display the duration and progress bar. Once the file has been fully transcoded, then the next time you play it it should be fine. One workaround is to pre-transcode your files before streaming them to you Philips TV. Right-click on a file in Mezzmo and click 'Pre-transcode Files' or right-click on a playlist/folder and click 'Pre-transcode Playlist'.
