Question Folder Thumbnails on Samsung TV

    Hi All,

I'm trying to find out whether my Samsung 51D6900 TV can display thumbnails/art on folders when browsing my media via Mezzmo (v2.7.1.0, using Samsung 'D' profile).

I'm viewing via the 'video' and 'music' apps and the media files themselves are showing auto-generated screengrabs / embedded album art, which I'm fine with. I'm more interested in the the ability to set custom art for the folders containing each movie/album - currently I just see boring yellow folders.

I've manually set thumbnails/art on the folders via the properties menu on the Mezzmo GUI, but this doesn't seem to have any effect when browsing on the TV. I've also added folder.jpg & .png files to some folders, which the GUI picks up happily, but still no change.

Searching the web and this forum seems to indicate custom folder art support is patchy at best, so I wanted to see if this is an impossibility for my make/model or if there's an easy solution I'm missing?

While I'm on the topic, I've also noticed music art is missing when on the playback screen on the Samsung - as mentioned the files all show their album art properly when browsing through folders, but I see a generic 'singer silhouette' when I actually go to play an album.

    Any pointers would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi

i've not seen this feature on any Samsung TV so it may simply be a limitation on the TV. I've used various streaming server solutions including the one that Samsung provides and none seem to indicate the folder thumbs are possible.

The only thumbs i can see are file specific, and on all 3 media types, music pictures and videos. but only once you have browsed inside a folder.

    cheers
    Gus

I think Gus is right - we also have not seen folder artwork displayed on our range of Samsung TVs and BDPs (rather you just get a generic folder icon). Mezzmo server does tell all DLNA devices (including your Samsung TV) that folder artwork is available and then it is up to your DLNA device to request it. Some devices do request the artwork and display it for folders/playlists - unfortunately, I don't think Samsung do though. The same goes for when playing music on your Samsung TV. Mezzmo tells your TV that artwork is available for the music file, but it seems your TV's firmware only displays it when browsing music files and not when playing music files.

    Default sub-folders

An other question to the topic sub-folders.
I get on my samsung tv always the years (from the movies) as sub-folders.
    How can I disable this?

    Thank you.

In Mezzmo, you can set up your Mezzmo library as you wish - including removing playlists/folders that you don't need. In Mezzmo, click on Videos in the tree and you will see all the playlists and folders (that have been created when you installed Mezzmo or have been added by you). You can remove any of these if you wish. Simply right-click on the folder/playlist in the tree in Mezzmo and press DEL key on your keyboard. In addition, you can create your own playlists (normal, smart, active, linked) in the tree so you can find and play your favorite files when browsing them on your DLNA devices in your home.

Thank you for your fast reply.

I understand the functionality of the playlists in Mezzmo.
The problem is that I get a second layer under each playlist.
These subdirectories have the years (e.g. from movies) as name.

Do you have a hint for me?

Can you take a screenshot for me and post it here? That will help understand what may be going wrong.

This is the first level: some default playlists/folders (all files, last added, genre, etc.) were displayed.
    Foto1.jpg

I select "genre" and I get the sub-folders:
    Foto2.jpg

That's ok. Now I activate "Animate" and expect a list of the "animate" movies. Instead the TV displays the next layer:
    Foto3.jpg
It contains the year of the movies. How can I avoid this?

Very interesting: A smart playlist doesnt show me it.

    Hi,
open Mezzmo on your PC and right-click on the Genre playlist and select properties, you will see the year listed in the 'Keyword hierarchy', click on year and click 'Delete' and this will remove the year and allow the videos to be listed directly under the genre.
