Default Display Order of Media Files - Music Display ordered by Track ID

    Hello,

I'm evaluating the mezzmo DLNA server and I have one major concern.

On my player when I navigate into a music folder all of the results are displayed and sorted Alphabetically by Song Title, not by track_ID or by File_Name.

This means a standard music album is not displayed or playable in the order was meant to be.

I have found a cheezy workaround that is a logistical nightmare which is to edit the Song Title (within Mezzmo) to include the track ID. With this change, my player shows them in the proper order. Now I have to edit hundreds and hundreds of files.... not manageable at all.

I've seen posts about this issue dating back 1 - 2 years on this forum.

    Any status update?

    Edit: just to compare:
foobar2000 upnp server allows to modify the track title format: %list_index% - %title% - this basically injects the track index into the name field - problem solved
Serviio displays filename, which contains the track index number - no problem
Twonky allows configuration of sort criteria: sortcriteria='+upnpriginalTrackNumber' - problem solved

All of these above are on the presentation layer, rendering the sorted list and sending it to the client, no need to modify the local files on the drive.

But I like Mezzmo better so far, the way it grabs & displays the album photos on a song-by-song basis, especially on various artist albums, the other ones are basic utilities.

    Thanks

When you are browsing a folder that you have added into your Mezzmo library, Mezzmo is dynamically listing the files as they appear on your hard disk/NAS.

However, Mezzmo does have playlists under the Music playlist that are sorted using track number. If you browse the 'Artist' playlist under 'Music', you can see all albums for that artist and then under each album are the tracks for that album (sorted in track order). You can also create your own smart or active playlists to allow you to drill down into the files from your Mezzmo library.

    Thanks for the follow up!

When browsing a folder that I have added into Mezzmo library (on the DLNA device), Mezzmo is sorting them alphabetically and listing the files as sorted by the Alphabetical "Track Name" label, nothing to do with the files as they appear on the hard disk.

If they were being displayed as they appear on the hard disk I wouldn't be here with this issue! All files are labelled with their proper track number as the file name.

Somehow Mezzmo ignores both the filename, and the TrackID when displaying.

I have validated this by renaming the "Track Name" in Mezzmo, and they appear sorted on the device.

Thanks for the further information. It's best we see a set of logs to see what Mezzmo is delivering to your device. Turn on logging (see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread...nostic-logging) and restart your Mezzmo server. Connect to Mezzmo from your device and reproduce the problem you mention. Then, stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo. Zip up all the logs and email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

    Hi Paul,

I've sent the log files over yesterday. Let me know if you need more information.

I did a little more digging and found that FLAC files use vorbis tags, and not ID3 tags.. so I went and did more testing.

Same sorting results with MP3 and FLAC. I've ensured all files have filenames with the track order, also have a proper Vorbis or ID3 tag.

Within Mezzmo I am able to add additional viewing columns for "Name" and "Track", whick allows me to sort the order displayed within the Mezzmo window.

I have also read many other devices also have issues with sorting file names by track... so any possibility of dynamically changing the title when sending it to the player could solve the problem. Maybe a 3.0 feature request

Well I found a new solution using http://www.mp3tag.de/en/ - I can select an entire album.

    Following these steps:
    1) select all files
    2) select Convert -> Tag - Tag
    3) change Title to: %track% - %title%
    4) Press apply, each tracks title will be renamed <trackid> - <title> automatically

This solves my problem, I'll just process the files before importing them into Mezzmo.

This makes them sorted properly in Mezzmo and on the DLNA device.

If you guys can fix this in the next version I would greatly appreciate it. Sorting by TrackID is a key feature required for music folders.
