Default Sony BDV-E580 getting "File corrupt or unsupported"

I have a Sony BlueRay system (BDV-E580) that see's my Window's Media server files just fine, all .avi files. But certain files won't play, stating "File corrupt or unsupported." I don't think anything is wrong with the files because I have two Sony SMP-N100 media players, that connect to the exact same media server, and can play all the same files just fine. I've tried researching this till I'm blue in the face and cannot come up with any ideas.

So I stumbled across Conceiva's Mezzmo product and read up on it. Long story short, I downloaded and installed it and it does the same thing. Does anyone have any ideas?

Also, I was wondering what video formats Mezzmo supports? I've ripped one of my blueray discs to .mp4 and Mezzmo see's the file and plays it. Sony SMP-100 players do not support .mp4 over DLNA. I was wondering what video format I could start using since I'm not crazy about .avi files.

As you can tell, this is all new to me. But I would appreciate any help!

    Hi Jeff,
the best format for the Sony SMP-100 is mpeg, Mezzmo will transcode your MP4 files to mpeg when you play them, so if you want to play your files natively you will need to encode them as mpeg with mpeg2video and ac3 audio.

For the Sony BDV-E580, you can try using the Sony BDP (NTSC) device profile, if this does not work for your avi files please send an email to support [at] conceiva [dot] com and we will supply you with an updated device profile.

    Peter,

Where do I find the device profiles? I assume you are referring to Mezzmo.

    Hi Jeff,
go to 'Media Devices' in Mezzmo and double-click your device in the list then you can select the device profile from the list and change it to 'Sony BDP (NTSC)'.

    Peter,

Still a no go. Keep getting the same "File corrupted or unsupported" message.
I would totally buy this product if it helped me in this area.

G.I. Jeff, I'd be willing to bet those avi files have been ripped from bluray's with Cinavia. Anything manufactured after early 2012 would have that and any firmware update after that date too.

FWIW the issue isn't mezzmo, the issue is the device you're using (Sony). I encountered the same problem with my Sony Bluray and simply went out and bought a WD TV box instead. No more dreaded "File Corrupted" messages on avis that would play fine on computers but not through streaming.
