    Default Hi10P/Subtitle Streaming

    Hello,

a have various dlna devices at home, so my setup is kind of demanding. However, using device profile Mezzmo pretty much seems to be a quite good solution. I am currently in trial period and updated to 3.0.1.0 yesterday. i contacted the support via email a week ago. However, i have yet to receive an answer to my question:

Many of my Videos are MKVs with H264 Hi10P Encoding. The Popcornhour A100 in my sleeping room, which is connected to a projector, does not play this.

Mezzmo should provide a provide a profile, which detects Hi10P and switches to transcoding - This is the first Problem. However, i could temporarily solve this by transcoding every file send to the device.

This however leads directly to a second problem: It strips the embedded subtitles in the MKV and does not reencode them in the mpeg2 stream send to the device. I spent the whole night trying out different Options on the new subtitle tab, since with Popcornhour there are multiple options available - external subs, embedded subs and hardsubs should all work. None of these Options however produced a file with subtitles at all - The options seem to be completely ignored.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

    Hi koshi,

Right-click on the MKV file and click Pre-transcode Files. Select your Popcorn device in the device list and click Choose Formats. In the Pre-transcode Formats dialog, select the desired transcoding format and click the 'Force embedding subtitles' checkbox. This tells Mezzmo to embed all associated subtitles for the MKV file into the transcoded file.

To see what associated subtitles have been found for the MKV file, right-click on the MKV file and click Properties. Click on the Subtitles tab.

Regarding your MKV files, please post the FFmpeg information on one of them. Right-click on the MKV file and click 'Get FFmpeg Information'.

And, tell us the device profile that you are using for your Popcorn Hour. Go to the Media Devices dialog to see this.

    Hi Paul,

thanks for your reply. So i actually have to use manual preencoding on files with embedded subtitles, which should be encoded on the fly (Thats what we need a mediaserver for, i guess)?

You do not have a timeframe for the change of this behavior, since i am evaluating at the moment and from my point of view this would be absolutely critical to fix...

This would be a typical file with "Video: h264 (High 10)" being the problem. I am currently using the "Popcorn Hour (A-100/110)" Profile, since this is exactly the device i am using. The normal "Popcorn Hour" Profile shows the same behavior.

    Thanks again

    Thanks, koshi.

Email us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com and we'll provide a tweaked Popcorn Hour device profile.

Regarding automating embedded subtitles to burnt subtitles, we understand your need for this feature. We are discussing this now and will provide this feature soon. No firm date yet as we need to work through what is required 'under-the-hood' to do this.

    Thanks again,

i have sent the requested mail. To my understanding this is an issue not only with the popcornhour, but with all hardwareplayers available today, since there are no chips for decoding h10p profile in hardware. I will test the profile and than report back.

As for the subtitles: It would be perfectly ok if they would stay embedded (For my part at least - I believe there are also players with no support for embedded subtitles at all) - However, they seem to be striped every time, reencoding does occur.

Maybe I will look into writing a wrapperscript to have a solution until the next release.

If you are currently fixing the subtitles: I found just another Problem. Using the workaround to extract subtitles and pretranscoding i was able to generate a file with subtitles, but unfortunately only till a certain point in the file. They stop working after a couple of minutes. I understand that this is not an issue of mezzmo. I think the problem is how mkvextract arranges ssa subtitles...

    Thanks for the information, koshi.

Please email us the subtitle file extracted by mkvextract and we'll see what it did.
