Default Sony Bravia EX52 subtitles not burning into stream.

    Hi Mezzmo,

The subtitles from my mkv are not burning into the stream. I have no idea where I go wrong with the settings. Please help.

    My TV: Sony Bravia EX52
Network: 1Gbps wired connection. Static IP address.
    Mezzmo Version:3.0.0.0

Device: (I have tried all the other Sony Bravia KDL profiles and none of them worked)

    Device Subtitle setting:
    sub setting.jpg

Options: (Tried to force burn in the global setting also)

    File Properties:

I have also saved the transcoded file and view it on the PC, still the subtitles are not burn into it.

Judging from the threads in the last days i think we can assure that it is just not working with embedded subtitles at all - The suggested workaround to export the subtitles before reencoding mentioned in http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread...es-on-Xbox-360 seems to work. However, with manual interaction it does not make any sense at all - If we have to manually extract the subtitles to get them reencoded properly, we could just do the entire reencode process manually and thus eliminating the need for a transcoding streamingserver at all...

Hmm looks like there may be a bug in the coding.

Before if I do a pre-transcoding its with the (+mpegts (+h264,-ac3)) format, and the force burning subtitles are greyed out.
    pretrans.jpg
    and the output is
    normal.jpg

If I do the workaround to export the subs. It seems to be working. When I do the pre-transcoding now its with (+mpegts (+h264,-ac3,+burn.en)) and the force burning subtitles option is now checkable.
    pretrans force.jpg
    and the output is
    manual extract.jpg

If I need to manually extract the subs for all my media, then its very troublesome.

Oh btw I upgraded to 3.0.1.0, and its still the same.

The current version of Mezzmo (v3.0.1.0) does not auto extract the embedded subtitle channels for burning or for streaming as external subtitle files. We are looking at automating this now.

Mezzmo Android: Install it on your tablet, smartphone, Android TV or Amazon Fire to browse and stream files from your Mezzmo library to all your devices. Full details at http://www.conceiva.com/products/mez...mo_android.asp
Mezzmo for Kodi Add-on: Install it into Kodi to stream files from your Mezzmo library directly in Kodi. Full details at http://www.mezzmo.com/wiki/doku.php?...odi_user_guide
Mezzmo for Roku App: Install it onto your Roku to stream files from your Mezzmo library. Full details at http://www.mezzmo.com/wiki/doku.php?...oku_user_guide

But I thought that it supported embedded subs? My problem is that its not supporting/streaming embedded subs, which Mezzmo claims it can.

Stream subtitles to all your devices: Mezzmo can read, stream and even transcode all popular external subtitle file formats and embedded subtitle channel formats. Mezzmo can also burn subtitles into your videos for those devices that do not support streaming external subtitles or embedded subtitles. Simply set your preferred language and Mezzmo will find the matching subtitles on your computer and stream them to your devices.
I don't want to extract the subs and burn them as external subs. I want it to be able to stream/burn embedded subs.

Sorry - there may be a terminology problem.

    • External subtitles are external subtitle files (inception.SRT, incredibles.SUB, homeland.SMI, etc.)
    • Embedded subtitles are embedded subtitle channels that are contained within the video container - i.e. your MKV video file may have a H264 video channel, an AC-3 audio channel and a SRT subtitle channel
    • Burnt subtitles are subtitles that are permanently drawn onto each frame in the video by Mezzmo when your device does not support external or embedded subtitles.

Since you have a Sony TV, then (to our knowledge) it does not support external or embedded subtitles. So, you must burn subtitles into the video. If you have subtitles that are external subtitles, then this burning occurs automatically in Mezzmo v3.0.1. If you have embedded subtitle channels in your videos, then (at the moment in Mezzmo v3.0.1), they must be manually extracted as external subtitles first using the Extract Subtitles button on the Properties dialog (Subtitles page) and then they will be burnt into the video when you stream the video.

As mentioned, we are currently looking into automatically extracting embedded subtitle channels so this is not a manual process. We expect to have this for an upcoming version of Mezzmo.

Ah ok, so the fine print is that the embedded sub needs to be extracted first, then only it can be burn into the video stream.

Darn I was hopping to ditch the Russian "Home/Wild Media Server" and switch back to Mezzmo.

Yes - sorry about that extra step for now. Hopefully you won't need to use the Russian server for too long We'll try to fast-track the development of the auto embedded subtitle channel extraction.

The latest version (Mezzmo v3.2.0.0) auto extracts embedded subtitles from your videos. Check that this feature has been turned on. Go to the Options dialog (Subtitles -> Advanced page) and make sure the "Auto extract subtitles" checkbox is turned on. See http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread...3152#post23152.
