Default How do I FF / Rev watcing on DirecTV

With all the recent posts about DirecTV I thought I'd give it a try myself. It plays my 720p and 1080p files fine (with transcoding). Stop, pause and play work but I can't get FF or reverse to work. The files I've played haven't completed transcoding but all were 50 - 75% complete before I tried.

For Directv devices, you will need to wait until transcoding has completed and then stream the video to your Directv device. That will allow you to FF/REW.

I had a chance to look at this again today and I can't get FF or Rev to work. I have two different types of DirecTV devices (HR-24 and H-25). Both devices are able to play files through Mezzmo using the HR24 (MP3) profile. Quality of audio and video is good.

Mezzmo shows the file being streamed to both devices and shows no transcoding activity. I'm assuming this means the file completed transcoding since the last time I tried this and it should therefore work.

I've pushed every button on the DirecTV remote without any luck. No FF or Rev.

It's best we see a set of logs when you try to FF/REW. Turn on logging (see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread...nostic-logging) and restart your Mezzmo server. Stream your video and then try the FF/REW buttons on your remote control. Then, stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo. Zip up all the logs and email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

FYI... from Paul & the support team:

"We've done some more research on this and found out that unfortunately Directv set-top boxes do not allow you to FF/REW when streaming via DLNA. This is a firmware limitation with their devices - and is not related to Mezzmo.

My only suggestion is to contact the Directv folks and ask them when they will update the firmware in your various Directv models to support FF/REW via DLNA."

I'll post DTV's response when I hear back from them.

I work for DirecTV and can confirm that FF/Rew in Media Share is not available with any software or on any device. This is not a limitation of Mezzmo.

The DirecTV boxes are fine as a backup DLNA streaming device but I would never rely on it for frequent streaming. Spend $70 and get a WDTV Live, instead. Media Share is officially a Beta feature of DirecTVs High Definition receivers and there are no rumors of any updates for the service.

Many thanks for the confirmation, smitbret.

FYI... no love from DTV technical support. They said "Mezzmo is a media server program for streaming movies, photos & music to DLNA compatible devices. We do not "support" these types of services." As for these types of services; their website does recognize that a server is required.
To set up your system for Media Share, you'll need the following:
    * An HD DVR connected to the Internet. To learn more about connecting your HD DVR to the internet, click here
    * A PC with media sharing software, including Windows Media Player, TVersity, or Twonky. Consult your application's instructions for setting up media sharing.

Anyway, for fun, I tried streaming video from WMP... FF/Rev didn't work either. Too bad that DTV doesn't have even this level of rudimentary support built into their MediaShare function. It would have been more convenient than having to switch over to my Bluray player.

That's not great news from DirecTV technical support. Whilst you wait in hope for an upgrade to their Media Share firmware, you are left with little choice but to use another device for media streaming in your home like your Blu-ray player or (as smitbret suggests) perhaps getting a low-cost media player like a WD TV Live.
