    Question Windows Phone 8 Setup

    Hi there,

Since installing mezzmo i have been trying to get video streaming to my mobile with very little luck. I have a Nokia Lumia 920 and am attempting to connect to mezzmo with the app AV Remote. I can see the whole library but it wont play any of the files in any of the formats, i have contacted the support for AV Remote as well but I wanted to post and ask if there is something I'm missing. How do you guys connect to your server with windows phone 8?
Av remote is the only app i could find to connect to mezzmo.

Could someone help me with a run down from server to client how i could go about getting a video to play?

    Thanks
    -Dave

    Hi Dave,

Several Window Phone 8 owners report that they are using MyMediaHub on their phone. Make sure you use the Windows Phone 8 device profile in Mezzmo. Go to the Media Devices dialog to set this for your device.

We have not tested AV Remote. Each app is different in the formats that they support and the way they talk to DLNA servers like Mezzmo. That's why we create device profiles for devices (and apps) so that Mezzmo can talk to them & stream files in the right format so everything works seamlessly. We're happy to create a new device profile for AV Remote. We'll need a few thing from you:

    • A set of logs. Turn on logging in Mezzmo (see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread...nostic-logging) and restart your Mezzmo server. Connect to Mezzmo from AV Remote and browse some folders/playlists and try to play some files. Then, stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo. Zip up all the logs and email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.
    • A list of all the video formats, audio formats, image formats and subtitle formats that AV Remote supports.

Once we get this, we'll create the device profile for you to try.

Post Still having a few problems.

Hi, Thanks for your quick reply. I had already set the device profile to WP8 as soon as I downloaded the 3.3 update.

Now, what I've done is do some testing of both applications to see what support they have currently based upon each file type on my phone.

This is what I've Found will play in each application.

    Cap2.JPG

My issue is that this is the coverage I used to get whilst using Tversity, it just seems strange that the files wont play even though the server starts to transcode them...

I also recorded all the logs, I'm guessing I should send them to the support email referencing this forum post?

Thanks. Got your logs via email. We'll check them out and create a new device profile. We'll report back via email when we're done.

    Hi!

I'm Harald, the creator of AV Remote. Maybe I can shed some light on this.

In the first place AV Remote is a ControlPoint, which means that it tries to match the servers ProtocolInfos (received by ContentDirectory -> Browse -> Item.Res[]) with a Renderer's capabilities (ConnectionManager -> GetProtocolInfo -> Sink[]). When the user browses the list, he can select a list of compatible Renderers for each Item. So at the time of match making the Renderer could be ANY (mobile or non-mobile) device.

AV Remote is also a DMP which internally is treated just like any other Renderer. Here AV Remote tries to match an Item's Res[] with the internal Sink[].

As far as I know it's not possible to encode all details of a video in a ProtocolInfo, so there can't be a perfect match making. This in turn means that if Mezzmo wants to solve this issue by transcoding, the transcoding decision (e.g. which encoder settings to put in an .avi container) would need to be done when streaming actually starts. Since the streaming is initiated by Windows Phone's MediaPlayer, BackgroundAudioPlayer or imaging system, I have no idea if a UserAgent is provided.

However, if you have an idea how to find out who's querying, I'll happily assist.

Here's the official list of supported media codecs: msdn.microsoft.com/library/windowsphone/develop/ff462087(v=vs.105).aspx

And while we're at it, here's an easy one: Mezzmo announces .mp3 files with a mime type of "audio/mp3"; while the official mime type is "audio/mpeg" (http://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/audio, http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3003).

    Best regards,
    Harald
