That's correct. Homeplug is, just like wireless, being rated for "up to xxx Mbits", depending on range, wire quality, powerline noise, etc...

At least the newer standards are starting to show speeds that are quite higher, but still, nothing beats a good Cat 5e or Cat 6 wire running around - if you can do it.

    Thanks for the suggestion guys.

Getting the Cat 6 cable and setting it up. I will keep you posted.

    Question

I have bought the Cat 6 cable. But no luck in setting up network between the PC and Plasma. Can you guys help me?

I have Windows 7 in my pc.

    Here is what I did,

    1. Tried setting up IP address, mask, gateway, DNS like mentioned in this page - http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/artic...er-Cable/426/5. But the default gateway for the connection in Windows 7 always resets to 0.0.0.0. So I could not set the gateway and could not get the connection working.

    2. Tried only setting the IP address and mask like mentioned here - http://www.home-network-help.com/crossover.html. In this case, I get the following error in the Plasma when I do a test - "Home network found, no gateway response"

    Regards
    Dave

Did you get a crossover ethernet cable or just a regular ethernet cable? Take a read of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet_crossover_cable if you are unfamiliar with crossover cables and connecting two devices directly together (e.g. TV and computer). That may be the reason for your problems.

Also, it's possible that your TV insists on having a Gateway because it tries ping'ing it to make sure the connection is working. In that case, set your TV gateway to be the same IP as your PC, just to fool it.

Leaving the default gateway to 0.0.0.0 on the PC should be fine, as you already have another default gateway set on your Internet connection.

It's a crossover cable(Cat 6). Looks like it was a Windows 7 problem. I have installed Win XP SP3(dual boot) and it works on that. I have left the IP settings to automatic and I am also able to ping the plasma using it's IP address.

I installed Mezzmo and got the videos working. But 720p does not work - have streaming problems. These are the settings I have set,

Profile - Panasonic Viera, Connection - Ethernet Gigabit, others are default. Plamsa - Panasonic Viera TH P42V20D

I have enabled logging, I am not sure how to debug or what to look for. could you guys help?

Good to hear you got past the cabling/Windows issues. Try streaming some photos, music and video and make a note of anything that does not work. Then send me the logs so we can take a look at what's going wrong. Before sending the logs, stop the server, zip up all the log files and send them to support [at] conceiva [dot] com. In your email, describe what files work and what don't work, so we know how to help.
