Default "File You've Selected is Currently Not Supported" - AVI, MP4, -- Mezzmo

    Good Evening,

We have enjoyed Mezzmo for sometime now.
But all of a sudden, one night we try to sit down and watch the same movie with friends and we have the following message show up.

"The File You've Selected is Currently Not Supported".

The files were both AVI and MP4.

Attempted to troubleshoot for hours and hours and am lost.

    Assistance would be appreciated.

Running Windows 8.1 recently upgraded. (Never tested the streaming before the 8.1 was installed).
    Samsung 50F6300
    WD My Book Live

I will forward my logs to your support email address.

    Thanking you in advance,

    David

    Little help,

during my troubleshooting - I ruined my entire library 100's of hours spent with setup lost.

Just recently I attempted to try something different, I turned OFF TRANSCODING for all devices.

    And it works....Is this wrong?

    Couple more questions...

#1. Why do files require transcoding?

#2. Are all files to be pre-transcoded? Or transcoded before you watch them?

#3. I have 3 devices found under 'MEDIA DEVICES'
    a) Samsung TV
    b) WD MY Book Live
    c) Mezzmo

All of my videos are located in B.
Which one could be transcoding turned for? B???

    Sorry for the many questions.
But I am using AllShare from Samsung right now and I hate it. It is slower than Windows 95.

    Thanks again,
    David

    Hi David,

Check the device profile assigned to your TV in the Media Devices dialog. It should be 'Samsung F'.

In general, transcoding should be turned on. This ensures that any files that cannot be played on your TV are transcoded into a format that can be played. Files that are already compatible will not be transcoded and will be streamed directly to your TV.

If you still have problems, then we need to see a set of logs. Turn on logging (see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread...nostic-logging) and restart your Mezzmo server. Connect to Mezzmo from your TV and try to play some files. Then stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo application using File/Exit menu item. Zip up all the logs and email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

    Hello Paul,

    Thank you for your response.

My TV is setup as Samsung F, (under 'Device Profile').

But I still have the question,

Do we have to turn ON pre-transcoding?

    If so for which devices,?
I have 3 devices found under 'MEDIA DEVICES'
    a) Samsung TV
    b) WD MY Book Live
    c) Mezzmo

All of my videos are located in B.
Which one could be transcoding turned for? B???

    Thanks again Paul,

    David

    Hello Paul,

Sent the log file to the email address you mentioned.

But could you please answer these questions?

#1. Been doing some research (cuz I have no idea what transcoding is, all my videos are HD quality if not 1080p, and I have learnt from others that AVI is the better, (not saying it is true))
    - Also that transcoding lowers the quality of the video, (Wikipedia).
    Is that true?

#2. Should the option of pre-transcoding be turned?

#3. If so for which devices,?
I have 3 devices found under 'MEDIA DEVICES'
    a) Samsung TV
    b) WD MY Book Live
    c) Mezzmo

All of my videos are located in B.

    Thank you for your time.

I love your product, but am stuck in a little bit of a jam at the current time.

The reason for all the questions is that I placed an MP4 file (1080p-2hr movie) into the directory as a test.
Turned on pre-transcoding for all devices.
Do you know the wait time was, very large, not to mention the CPU priority.
This was one file, I have 3 TB.
I do not want to lose my computer for a week.

Please remember that many people reload Windows due to issues. I have already reloaded Windows 8 twice.
That would require all the transcoding to be performed again. OH my God....

Please help me understand, I have read the tutorials, help menu and read thru forums.
But this has not been mentioned before.

    Thanking you in advance,
    David

    Hi David,

    Some answers

#1. Transcoding simply means converting. For example, let's say you have a AVI video file, but your DLNA device (e.g. TV) does not support playing AVI files. So the only way to get your TV to play your AVI video is to convert it (or commonly called transcode it) to a video format that your TV does support. You could convert your AVI file manually yourself using a video conversion tool - or you can let Mezzmo do it for you since Mezzmo includes all the conversion technology already. Mezzmo converts (transcodes) your incompatible files in two ways. The first way is the recommended way - transcoding on-the-fly: when you stream your (incompatible) AVI file, Mezzmo will know it is incompatible and will start converting (transcoding) it on-the-fly (i.e. straight away) and immediately start streaming the partly converted file to your device. That way you can enjoy watching your video on your device without even knowing that it is incompatible. Mezzmo is doing the conversion for you behind the scenes. This is the way most people use Mezzmo. The second way is called pre-transcoding. It is only required when your computer is not powerful enough for transcoding on-the-fly. You will notice this when your videos start to stutter when playing them. To fix this, you can transcode your files before streaming them, so Mezzmo just needs to stream the already transcoded file to your device - thus eliminating the stuttering.

#2 & #3. As mentioned in #1, you only need to pre-transcode if your videos are stuttering or you cannot use the FF/REW buttons on your remote control. I would recommend that you do not pre-transcode any files unless you are having playback problems. See this FAQ for a good explanation - http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread...nscoding-Files

Regarding re-installing Windows & your transcoded files, your transcoded files are stored in a transcoding folder on your computer. You can set the location of this folder to any drive you like so re-installing Windows will not lose these transcoded files. See the Transcoding Settings dialog in Mezzmo to set the location of your transcoded folder and the maximum size of the folder. Also click Help to get an explanation of the various fields on this dialog.

    Paul,

Still unable to stream files to computer.

Attempting the FAQ, regarding passwords, as you mentioned at the following location:
    http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread...r-home-network

I have already attempted this with no luck. Still no streaming video.

    Windows 8 version…

The Windows Credential is supposed to be?
(I have 3 devices, listed in Mezzmo)
    a) Samsung F
    b) WD Live
    c) Mezzmo

Which one requires the user name and password?

Now if it is the user name and password with Windows 8, is it supposed to be the email account affiliated with Windows 8? In my case palmerdavid@?

The login information, found in administrator tools.
The account is supposed to be?
Account from the a,b,c listed above?
And if it is the user name and password with Windows 8, is it supposed to be the email account affiliated with Windows 8? In my case palmerdavid@?

Paul, you see why I can find this somewhat confusing?
My WD Live has a different login/password.

Also, very confused as to why the videos play with transcoding turned-off.

Please help, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Your files are stored on your WD My Book Live and Mezzmo server cannot access them. Your WD My Book Live has password access, so you need to add Windows Credentials for it in Windows on your computer as per this FAQ - http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread...r-home-network. The username and password you need to enter is for your WD NAS drive (not your Windows username & password).
