Default DirecTv not necessarily Mezzmo - HR34 and C31 Client(s) Media Share

Not sure if this is Mezzmo issue, but thought I would post my problem and I have read a number of the other Mezzmo / DirecTv posts which fixed streaming issues. I just downloaded and installed Mezzmo 3.4.3 trial version. Love the interface and the ease of installation!!!

Now to get things working in all rooms

I'm wondering of other DirecTv customer have seen and/or solved the following? I just posted the following in the DirecTv Media Share forum also"

I had the subject system installed about 6 months ago by a DTV installer (not contractor) and just now have found the time to try to use media share. I tried using Windows Media Player on Window 7 as the server but both on the hr34 and c31, I could see video titles but playing would return (paraphrasing) "can not stream video".

I installed Mezzmo and can stream video, pictures and music the hr34 just fine. However my main reason to media share is to stream to the c31 client(s) in the other room(s).

On the c31, I can access YouTube and Pandora just fine. No so with media share content.

When I access Extra -> Music and Video -> My Computer -> Mezzmo, I can browser the server contents (through multiple menus) and select a video by either pressing SELECT or the Play arrow. The TV switch to a screen (like on the hr34, or c31 starting to play YouTube) which stays for several seconds and then the screen goes into a "masked" view which replays the Menu selections starting with selecting Music and Video to the point just before selecting the selected video title. At that point, I can again select the title or another one. If I select either the same one or another title, the entire process repeats.

When playing a video either transcoded "on the fly" or pre-transcoded on the hr34, everything is fine. Neither works with the c31.

As anyone seen this? How or did you fix the problem?

    Thanks,

    Roy

    Hi Roy,

First thing to check is the device profile assigned to your c31. Go to the Media Devices dialog in Mezzmo and check the device profiles for your hr34 and c31. Try setting the c31 device profile to the same device profile as set for the hr34. Restart your Mezzmo server and try streaming again.

If no success, then turn on logging (see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread...nostic-logging) and restart your Mezzmo server. Reproduce the problem on your c31 and then stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo. Zip up all the logs and email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

    Hi Paul,
Thanks for the quick reply. The advantage of you being "down under" (in my past life, I had a development team in Australia and I was here in the States).

The only device I see is DIRECTV2PC Media Server and Mezzmo

Understand. Please send us a set of logs and we'll look into it further for you. See my previous post for creating a set of logs & email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

    Hi guys,
I just tried streaming to my C41 and it's not working now.. same thing as Roy, can see mezzmo, can load the playlist, but cant play anything.
To Paul: The C31 and C41 are a little bit different animal. They wont show up in the Mezzmo devices. They get everything from the HR34 or an HR44. They work off of a Client/Server setup.
To Roy: I know for a fact this was working fine a week or 2 ago due to a software glitch that was introduced into the HR44. Mezzmo would run fine (at that time) to the C41, but would hiccup and glitch on the HR44.
There have been software updates to the HR34 and HR44 since I last tested, but I have not updated Mezzmo.
Since the only changes have been on the DirecTV side, I can with a reasonable amount of certainty, tell you that this is a problem on the DirecTV side, and not a problem with Mezzmo.
To Paul: You guys have added the HR44 as a "Device" in the list. The HR34 and the HR44 should run fine with this selection (I know they ran fine with HR24 selection also.. I've had experience with both). The clients (C31 and C41) never look at the servers directly, so there would be no way to assign these a device selection of there own.

Lanarian - thanks for the insight

Paul and Lanarian - I talked with a DTV "I can help you with that" and minutes later "we're not trained on Media Share". Per pages he has access to streaming to Genie clients, any model, is not supported. He suggested that see if anyone in their customer forum might help. I asked how can they help when it is not supported and is not monitored by DTV Support?

I sent an email to the "Office of the President" about my disappointment with Media Share, their lack of support and documentation on limitations. About 2 hour later, I got a voicemail from one of their Customer Advocates. I will call back on Monday when my work hours match up with her East Coast time frame.

Dont expect much official support from DirecTV. I work for them in tech support and most likely you'll get a "Case Manager".
I've worked in Case, and they really are the best that DirecTV has to offer from a support standpoint, but mediashare has been pretty much officially abandoned.
Most likely they'll gather info and send it to the engineering group, who'll get it to the software guys.
I'm confident it will get fixed, but I doubt it will be a priority.

Thanks for the insight, Lanarian. Given you have been up and running and then only experienced the problems after applying Directv firmware updates (and no Mezzmo updates), then this does suggest the problem lies in the Directv firmware changes. If you need help talking to the Directv technical team, let us know & we can provide technical details regarding Mezzmo streaming.

Has there been any progress with getting the Genie clients to work with MediaShare?

We do have Mezzmo users successfully streaming to their Directv Genie (HR44) clients. Make sure you are using the "DirecTV HR44 (Genie)" device profile. Go to the Media Devices dialog to set this.
