Default Media Sharing Service error on Windows Server 2008

    Hi There,

I'm trialling Mezzmo to use on a machine running Server 2008, but it seems the media sharing service won't start.

The error given by Mezzmo after pressin "Start Media Server" is:
    Failed to change service status

The error logged to the windows event log is:
    Code:
    Log Name: System
    Source: Service Control Manager
    Date: 21/05/2008 7:23:31 p.m.
    Event ID: 7023
    Task Category: None
    Level: Error
    Keywords: Classic
    User: N/A
    Computer: michael08
    Description:
The MezzmoService service terminated with the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
Starting the service manually also errors, I'm guessing this is just some kind of compatibility issue. I'm running as local/domain administrator.

I'm happy to assist in diagnosing the issue and I'll appreciate any assistance that can be provided.

    Cheers,
    slack.

    Hello,

Thank you for reporting this issue. We'll try to resolve it.

Can you please tell me if you can run Mezzmo itself ok? Can you add files?

It might be a bit easier to work on this issue if you e-mail me at support@conceiva.com - I'll be able to reply sooner and more often there.

Unfortunately the current version (1.1.2) of Mezzmo Media Server does not support running on Microsoft Server 2008. We will work on this issue and fix it for one of the future updates.

Thank you for bringing it up.

The some problem, but on Windows XP SP3 (clean).
I trying many install/uninstall, uninstall firewall/antyvirus left clean windows and...allways got "Failed to change service status", when try start service from msc then got "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."

    Hello,

Can you please start the Services panel (type Services.msc in the Run prompt) and check for the following issues:

    1) DCOM Server Process Launcher is "Started"
    2) Remote Procedure Call (RPC) is "Started"
    3) UPnP Device Host is "Started"

Let me know how it goes.

I'm glad that you've got the service running.

Can you please go to Tools -> Options, select the "Sharing Using UPnP/DLNA" item and check that the server is actually enabled, it's not in XBox360 mode and is not denied access (you can check denied/allowed access in the "Media Server Permissions" item in Options).

Also check what it says for the firewall status.

And you might try restarting the server as well and do a re-scan for devices on the PS3.

Also, can you please send the full log file to support@conceiva.com

    Thank you,

    Dennis
