Question New profile for Panasonic Viera no longer plays MPEG2-TS

    Hi!

I've just upgraded to v4.0.6.0 and apart from a few niggles during the update we're loving it. The ability to restrict the TV to only showing kid-friendly rated stuff during daylight ours is very timely (TreeFu Tom fine for a 3 year old just discovering how to press buttons, Sin City is not such a good idea...).

But we've seen some interesting changes too. The TV is now recognised as a Viera E30 SeriesA and was assigned the Panasonic Viera (2012 models) profile. This means everything we've previously converted to MP4 is now reported as MKV files, but the random skip on pause has gone, which is great. Transcode speed is still very good (once all old transcodes were deleted and preferences reset) so no worries there.

But for home video, which used to play as MPEG2-TS files, there is an long delay of several minutes even for a 1 minute clip, which the TV eventually interprets as unable to play file. Once the transcoding has finished the clips are playable, but the first several seconds are in shades of green and purple and very blockly. Some might say they're better for that of course.

I've found a workaround of changing the profile to just Panasonic Viera, which makes it all work as before, ie MPEG2-TS or MP4 as appropriate, but also brings back the random skipping when paused. I guess there's not much else I can do immediately?

    Hi Richard,

Try this: Go to the Media Devices dialog and edit your TV. Change the device profile to back to the "Panasonic Viera (2012 models)" device profile. Also, go to the Transcoding tab on the Device Settings dialog for your TV and turn off transcoding. Now try and stream the M2TS file to your TV. Mezzmo will stream the file to your TV without transcoding. If it plays, then it tells us that this format is supported by your TV. In this case, email us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com and we'll provide a tweaked device profile.
