Default Thumbnails not showing up on Sony BDP S570

This is my first post to these forums, having started using the trial version a few days ago.

So far I have been very impressed as to how easy Mezzmo is to set up and get working. Already I have MP3 and AVCHD video streaming from my XP machine to my Sony Blu Ray player. This is the first time I have been able to stream 1080i60 AVCHD video over my wireless-n network without a glitch (so far)!

The only issues I have seen have been ffmpeg crashes when starting up Mezzmo for the first time as it builds the database (I have read that this a known issue)

The other problem is that I don't seem to be able to display thumbnails for the icons under Mezzmo on my BDP S570

In Mezzmo on my PC I can see that it has created thumbs, so is this more likely to be a problem with the BDP S570?

    thanks

I don't think that the Sony BDPs show thumbnails for videos, unfortunately. If you saw a DLNA server that did deliver thumbnails to the BDP, please let me know and we'll investigate, but I haven't seen one yet. It looks like a firmware limitation on the Sony, so maybe they'll fix it up later.

My BDP S570 doesn't show thumbs for video or music. It shows the Mezzmo logo for the server but none of the folders and albums or movies have thumbs.

At Sony's suggestion I set up Windows Media Player 11 on my PC but it made no difference - no thumbs. The thumbs showed up in Media Player but not on my 570.

From what I have read, DLNA functionality on the BDP series has been pretty bad until a recent firmware update was rolled out. Probably, for Sony it is still a case of a 'work in progress'.

I hope they fix it soon though as it is hard to browse hundreds of albums without having the thumbnails.

Netflix Canada is also not supported on the BDPs in Canada, this is another major deficiency IMO and I hope Sony put some priority on fixing these things. I know the main function of these payers is to play Blu ray and DVD's but with DLNA it could be so much more.

Default Sony confirm - no thumbnails for video or music yet

I spoke to Sony Canada and they confirmed that the BDP S570 is not capable of displaying thumbs for video and music. They said that support for this *may* be added at some point but they gave no commitment.
They also said that their whole product range (Blu Ray players, TV, PS3) are not able to display the thumbs either. If that is true then is sounds like Sony are way behind some of their competitors with DLNA support.
I am going to have to reorganize all my videos into new folders with recognizable names ("chrismas2009". "jens wedding", etc) otherwise it is going to me a nightmare to find anything.
Anyway, as far as Mezzmo is concerned, it is working fine for me at the moment.

Just to clarify the information the folks at Sony Canada gave you - Sony Bravia TVs and PS3s certainly do display thumbnails for photos, music and videos. As Dennis mentioned in a previous post, we have not seen thumbnails for videos on Sony BDP products. We will watch out for firmware updates for the Sony BDP, and if they ever do enable video thumbnails, then we will make sure Mezzmo delivers them correctly.

thanks. It is good to get some real facts from the field. It seems I get a different answer every time I ask anyone at Sony.
