    Default ffmpeg.exe has stopped working

Hi I just purchased Mezzmo so I have the latest version.
    I am running Windows 7 64bit.

Ever since I installed Mezzmo I keep getting "ffmpeg.exe has stopped working" popups usually several dozen at a time.

Any ideas what is causing this?

I suspect it's related to thumbnail extraction failing on some of your videos. You could try tracking it down by including only a few folders at a time in your library, until you find which folder contains the troublesome file(s).

Do you have any files using more esoteric codecs?

Unfortunately since it's FFmpeg that's crashing and we're not developers of FFmpeg, we can't really fix these issues - the only thing we can do is update FFmpeg with each Mezzmo update to the latest SVN snapshot (as we do now), so over time such bugs should become more rare, as FFmpeg develops. You can also try replacing the ffmpeg.exe that we ship with another build, such as one from here to see whether it works with your files better: http://ffmpeg.arrozcru.org/autobuilds/

Alternatively, if you can send one of your files to support (at) conceiva (dot) com I'll add it to our test set of files and once it starts working I can let you know.

That's only a 64-bit build of FFmpeg, but you can still use the normal 32-bit build without issues. Also, with the next FFmpeg release we'll supress the error messages, so you won't get the annoying popups from FFmpeg anymore.

I was also able to track it down to Videos with .mpg extensions

Most of my files are .AVI which work just fine for me.

I can submit a file if need, but it is all .MPG files that are causing it on my 64bit version

If you wish, send a message to support (at) conceiva (dot) com and I'll send you an FFmpeg build that shouldn't pop up the error messages.

It's certain combinations of containers and codecs, an extension is too broad to judge by in this case. But if the majority of your mpegs are failing, then they must be sharing a similar type of audio/video codecs that cause FFmpeg to crash.

I am experiencing the same issue, in addition to it causing Mezzmo to freeze as well.

I added one folder to my library with no issues at all, it was full of my tv shows.

Then I added another folder full of movies. 400+ files of various formats and extensions. I immediately began to get the ffmpeg.exe failure. I kept kitting cancel as I watched the "getting video thumbnails" count in the status bar slowly going down, although it would continue to hang up on files.

Eventually it would finish, then I would try to browse through the files in the library. As soon as I double clicked on my movies folder (the same which gave me the ffmpeg headaches) Mezzmo would completely freeze and I'd have to kill it with task manager. Seems like I can explore that folder through Mezzmo, though Windows Explorer or VLC have no issue with it.

I updated ffmpeg to today's build (12/6) and did multiple restarts.

Can you please send a message to support (at) conceiva (dot) com and we'll send you an updated FFmpeg to try.
