    Default A Few Questions

    Hi

Failry new user, but loving the software. I have a Sony KDL40WX403 and a couple of files that can't be found. The first was DTS and I used Audiocovertor to change to DD5.1. The DTS file was seen by Mezzmo (2.1.11.0) but very slow to play / transcode. The DD5.1 file is there but not found.
    Here's the info

As for the other question, is there any way you can view a video half way, then resume it the following day? It seems I can do this as long as the tv is on, but if I want to watch the end of a film the next day it starts from the beginning?

    Any suggestions appreciated.

    Hi,

If you're using the "Sony Bravia KDL" device profile, then that file should be transcoded - is transcoding turned on? If it's off, then the file will not appear in listings.

With resuming playback - the TV stores that information and that's why when you turn it off it restarts. Mezzmo has no way of telling the TV to resume, so the device has to initiate that unfortunately.

    Hi Dennis

I'm using the Bravia KDL profile and transcoding is on. This has happened with a couple of films, most will play no problem.

Shame about the playback resume, do you know if Sony do much in the way of updates on this sort of thing, or is it a question of if it doesn't do it now it won't do it ever?

    Thanks for the responses btw.

    Hi Mark,

Some files to crash FFmpeg when we try to transcode them, but unfortunately all we can do in this case is submit a bug report to FFmpeg developers and hope that someday it gets fixed. We do constantly make new builds here internally for testing and some things do improve over time, so all is not lost

With the Sony - well, in theory it's possible that they will implement this in a future update, but in practice of course I cannot say anything of value since I have no idea how their development teams work and what their plans are. Maybe send them a support question on this to show that there's interest in this area.

Thanks for the reply, theory is fine, I'll hassle Sony for an update.

After reading some of the other topics would it be worth me trying an updated FFmpeg file or am I in danger of messing up if I try and get clever...

Also another file (I don't have the FFmpeg info but will get it later) seems to work for 30-40 seconds then freezes. When I look at my PC there doesn't seem to be any transcoding going on, not sure but the a quick look at the CPU cores and they don't seem to be doing much, which I thought transcoding on the fly made them busy busy... again any suggestions appreciated.

I just tried to go from the original DTS file for Apocolypse Now, seems to be working fine. Could AudioConvertor be an issue? I used it for my WD Media player with no problem, didn't realise I don't have to for this so I kept on doing it....

    Thanks

That file needs to be transcoded as well - does it always stop at the same spot? Maybe it's been cached and not deleted and now it's playing from that broken file. Try deleting transcoded files and playing it again to see if behavior changes in any way.

Not sure about what AudioConverter does, but it's best to let Mezzmo sort out transcoding and only when it fails (when FFmpeg in Mezzmo fails), then it's a good idea to pre-process those files with something else.

    Hi
Thanks again for the reply. FYI AudioConvertor is a tool I downloaded from the Popcorn website, it strips out DTS and replaces it with DD5.1. As I said with my WD Media Player (now defunct...) I couldn't play DTS as it doesn't support it, so I used AudioConvertor to convert to DD. It works 90% of the time. As I was used to doing it I kept using it. The DTS file seems to play fine with Mezzmo so I don't need to worry about that.

If you could just answer my question around this daily FFmpeg update, is it worth trying to use the latest FFMpeg builds or am I wasting my time.

Hopefully the last question now, so you can get on with your day job :-)

Sure, you can try the daily FFmpeg update - shouldn't hurt. Just keep a backup of your current one, in case it goes worse (this has happened in the past). We also do a weekly or so build here, so if you send a message to support I can send you a link to our "in-house" build to try as well.
