Default Embed Artwork Into Movie File

Is there anyway to permanently embed the artwork into the film file. When I first scan my library of 4000 plus films most films are tagged correctly with the right atrwork. But about a hundred or so are missing artwork or have the incorrect artwork. So i go through and correct it and all is good. But the problem is I often jump between operating systems and then install mezzmo again and re-scan and then im back to having to correct some again. Now if i could embed the artwork once I had corrected it all anytime I reinstalled mezzmo and did a scan all the artwork would be correct and no amending would be needed.

Currently Mezzmo does not have the ability to embed artwork into your files. The best approach might be to backup your Mezzmo database http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread...database-files and this includes the artwork so that when you re-install Mezzmo you can restore the backup and as long as the path to the files remains the same you will get the metadata and artwork shown correctly for your films. If the path to the files does change then you can use http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread...ur-media-files to modify the database.

Thanks for the quick reply peter. I will just back the database up for the moment then. Is it something that you plan to implement in the future though as it would be a useful feature.

We'll discuss it here for inclusion into a future version of Mezzmo. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Default Suggestion

    Suggestion:

Modifying the media files is tempting, but it’s a can of worms you probably shouldn’t open. For some containers, there isn’t even an accepted standard for embedding artwork or most other metadata. In my opinion, maintaining a “hands off” policy regarding user’s media files would be wise.

Instead, make a variant of “backup database” that writes .nfo files and external artwork. Include this option: either write the .nfo files and artwork into the same directories as the media files (for those who want to keep everything together), or write them to a separate, user-specified folder (replicating the directory structure of the media files, with the disk letter or machine name as the first level beneath the user-specified folder; for those who want to keep their media folders clean).

Let that function be applicable to one or more files, one or more playlists and/or folders, or the entire database. Try to follow existing .nfo implementations wherever possible, but add fields as necessary to support everything in the Mezzmo database.

Restoring would then just be a form of maintain database, with the option to define the path to a user-specified folder that contains the .nfo files and artwork.

Some nice ideas, Coises. We do already have planned to add export of metadata/artwork as .NFO/.XML/.TGMD external metadata files for a future version of Mezzmo so this matches up well with your thoughts.
