Default Avatar MKV subtitles don't work with Mezzmo but they do with SMB

    Hello,

I ripped Avatar 3D to an MKV file. I can stream to my Oppo 103 using Mezzmo or windows SMB. If I stream with Mezzmo, I can't turn on the subtitles but I can with SMB. Is there some setting I need to adjust within Mezzmo?

    Hi boe,

    Let us know the following:

    • Go to the Media Devices dialog and let us know the device profile assigned to your Oppo device.
    • Right-click on the video and click Properties. On the Properties dialog, go to the Subtitles tab and you should see your subtitles listed there. Take a screenshot of this dialog and post it here.
    • Right-click on the video and click 'Get FFmpeg Information'. Post that information here.

Thanks for the information. Try this: Right-click on the video in Mezzmo and click 'Properties'. On the Properties dialog, go to the Transcoding tab. Click the 'Use Original File' button and select your Oppo device and click OK. Then click OK to close the Properties dialog. Now try streaming your video to your Oppo again. In this case, Mezzmo server will stream the original file without any transcoding/modification. If it plays OK and you can see your subtitles, then we will tweak the Oppo BDP-103 device profile so these files are streamed natively rather than being transcoded. If the subtitles are not displayed, then go back to the Properties dialog and remove the "Use Original File" setting from the Transcoding tab. Let us know the result.

Thanks. I tested unfortunately it didn't resolve the issue. It is no emergency as SMB works without issue.

The fact that the subtitles don't display when you stream the MKV directly tells us that your Oppo does not display embedded Blu-ray subtitles when streamed via DLNA. This is a limitation of the Oppo's firmware.

We do know that your Oppo does support streaming & displaying external subtitles such as SRT, ASS, SMI, etc. So I suggest you download an Avatar .SRT subtitle file from the web and place it in the same folder as your Avatar video file. Name the .SRT the same name as your video file. Then go to the Subtitles tab on the Properties dialog for the video in Mezzmo and click the 'Update Subtitles' button. This will load the new subtitle file and you should be fine to stream the video and see subtitles.
