Default How can I stop incorrect metadata being assigned to a video file?

Hi, I have a few files that are being incorrectly identified by their metadata. Whenever I maintain my library a handful of video files are showing up as the wrong film information, poster etc. Deleting the poster, setting the poster to get artwork from video and deleting or manually changing the incorrect information doesn't seem to help, the next time the scheduled maintain library procedure is run the incorrect information re-appears. My metadata retrieval settings are all as default except for the entry "Only Update New Files or Files With Empty Attributes" which I have selected but it makes no difference. Help please!

Mezzmo determines the name of the movie or TV series based on your filenames and external metadata files (.xml, .nfo, ,tgmd). Once it gets the name, then it will download matching text metadata and artwork for the movie/TV show from movie and TV show web sites. For filenames, Mezzmo understands the following naming styles:

    C:\folder\Movie Title.avi
    C:\folder\Movie Title YYYY.avi
    C:\folder\Movie Title (YYYY).avi
    C:\folder\Title s01e01 Subtitle.avi
    C:\folder\Title 1x01 Subtitle.avi
    C:\folder\Title Season 1\Title 1x01 Subtitle.avi
    C:\folder\Title Season 1 Episode 1 Subtitle.avi
    C:\folder\Title\Season 1\01 Subtitle.avi
    C:\folder\Title\Season 1\s01e01 Subtitle.avi
    C:\folder\Title\Season 1\1x01 Subtitle.avi
    C:\folder\Title\Season 1\Title s01e01 Subtitle.avi
    C:\folder\Title\Season 1\Title 1x01 Subtitle.avi
    C:\folder\Title\Season 1\Episode 1 Subtitle.avi
    C:\folder\Title\Season 1\Season 1 Episode 1 Subtitle.avi
    C:\folder\Title Season 1\01 Subtitle.avi
    C:\folder\Title Season 1\s01e01 Subtitle.avi
    C:\folder\Title Season 1\1x01 Subtitle.avi
    C:\folder\Title Season 1\Title s01e01 Subtitle.avi
    C:\folder\Title Season 1\Title 1x01 Subtitle.avi
    C:\folder\Title Season 1\Episode 1 Subtitle.avi
    C:\folder\Title Season 1\Season 1 Episode 1 Subtitle.avi

If Mezzmo is not parsing your filename correctly, then post the full path to one of the files that is not being processed correctly and we can advise what's going wrong.

Regarding maintenance, Mezzmo will only overwrite your existing metadata and artwork if you have the "Update all attributes" radio button selected in the Maintain Library dialog. To just update new files or existing files with missing metadata, then select the "Only update new files or files with empty attributes" radio button. You can test this by right-clicking on a file and clicking 'Maintain Files'. This lets you maintain just one file and quickly see the results - so you can test the settings you have set in the Maintain dialog.

Thanks Paul, here's an example with a video I took on my mobile phone and copied to the computer under "c:\users\videos\<my username>\home videos\candy.mp4". As you can see from the screenshots, the original is a "get artwork from video" selection, and the properties show it as a home video. I run the "maintain files" option with the "only update new files or files with empty attributes" option selected, and it populates the data with a film called Candy and associated poster. The file isn't read-only. I am running Windows 8.1 with Mezzmo registered version 4.1.3.0

Understand better now. Since the video is a home movie and you do not any metadata for it, then by default Mezzmo wants to collect metadata for it from the web. So it finds a matching movie and uses the metadata and artwork. In this case, you can stop Mezzmo collecting metadata for this file from the web using the 'Metadata Retrieval Settings' dialog. When maintaining the file, click the 'Metadata Retrieval Settings" button to display the Metadata Retrieval Settings dialog. On this dialog, turn off the "Get text metadata and artwork from internet web sites' checkbox and click OK. Now when you maintain this file, it will not collect metadata from web sites.

This should work well for this file, but you probably do want to collect metadata for your other videos that are movies and TV shows - in which case, you will want that checkbox turned back on. It's a bit messy so we've discussed the problem here and we think we will introduce a a metadata "Lock" button on the Properties dialog so that you can lock the metadata and artwork for the file so Mezzmo knows to never change it. We'll add this into an upcoming version of Mezzmo.
