Thread: Roku App

    Default Roku App

    Hey all,

Long time Mezzmo user here and it's a great program - particularly for the price and support provided by the staff here.

BUT... one thing I've always found limiting is how Mezzmo interacts with the various players I've owned over the years - several generations of WDTV, an LG TV with a built in DLNA browser etc.
It works fine, but in a very basic manner.. no metadata etc. Obviously I understand that this is more a limitation of the devices rather than the server but it is disappointing all the same.

Anyway tonight I picked myself up a Roku Streaming Stick and again Mezzmo does work through their own app but in the same limited/basic manner which is a shame as this seems to be a
great device. For testing I installed Plex on both it and the physical server I'm running and while I don't find it as feature-complete or easy to use, navigation and use on the player is much better.

So my question is really.. are there any plans for a dedicated Mezzmo app that'll work with the Roku streaming stick?

Yes - we certainly have plans to create dedicated Mezzmo apps for devices like Roku, Samsung TVs, PS 4, etc. We'll probably focus on an iOS app first, as this is much requested by our users.

FYI: Once we release the upcoming Mezzmo (Windows) v5.0, then you will have a full web interface for browsing and playing your files. This means you will be able to connect to your Mezzmo server using any web browser (on any device/PC/tablet in your home or outside your home) and browse your Mezzmo library, view full metadata and play your files.

Please prioritize a Roku app. Most people that have a Windows machine won't be using apple devices, but will use either a windows phone or android. There are apps that will stream from Mezzmo now, but with no controls, so stopping a movie means you have to start from scratch and there is no way to fast forward or rewind. It's awful. I'm speaking of the "Roku Media Player" app. I haven't tried seen any other DLNA apps yet.

Again, please put Roku at the top of your list. Roku devices are everywhere now and becoming a standard household appliance. iThis devices can wait, you'll make more money by supporting Roku!!

Thanks for your vote for a Roku app.

Sorry - can't agree with this. I think many, many millions of Win PC/laptop owners have iPhones and/or iPads.

So people are looking for more support in their streaming devices for the TV and you're going with an app to stream to a tablet or phone. Do your customers need better support in the living room or on a mobile device?

Maybe a misunderstanding, IsNull. We intend on getting Mezzmo on all devices that can stream music, video and photos. That includes devices such as TVs, media players and mobile devices.

That wasn't my point. My point was you indicated that an IOS app would have priority. If a majority of your users want a more robust client attached to their TV, why pick an IOS app when it will only be used on tablets and phones?

Our development priorities are most often influenced by our userbase. If we have many, many Mezzmo users asking for an iOS app, then that will raise it's priority over other suggested features or client endpoints. We collect all suggestions that we get via this forum, email, customer support, etc. and this provides us with a good gauge as to what's wanted the most by our userbase. We have not yet decided our next feature set + client end points post Mezzmo v5.0. This will only be done after Mezzmo v5.0 has been released. Your request for a Roku app has been heard loud and clear .

I don't have a Roku but I can see where that would be a pretty popular app. Just not before a Kodi plugin......
