Default Some questions before getting trial.

    Hello,

I am planning on buying Samsung J series soon. Currently I have an E series.
I have no problems with it and using different DLNA servers, but having read a bit almost all have subtitle problems with the new J series.
So on the forum I have found some info that Mezzmo has (will have) a profile for it and this almost won me to start using it.
Still need some info though if someone can share. I will of course get the trial when I get the tv, but wanted to know more in advance.

First I hope I can use subtitles without transcoding, maybe this a question to the devs since the profile is not publicly available.
The next most important question is if I buy version 4 now what happens when version 5 is out ? Do I get updated to it or need to buy again.
All others are minor things and I'm sure they are available but still : remember last played position even across devices, 4k support .h265 without transcoding (i think the j series support that), tv series mode - sort as seasons and easy way to view last viewed episode.

    Some answers:

    • We do have a Samsung J device profile available now that you can try. It will be included in the upcoming Mezzmo v5.0. Or you can email us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com and we'll provide details how to try it now.
    • All media servers (including Mezzmo) are currently having problems getting subtitles to work on Samsung J-series TVs. Samsung have changed the way the subtitles work in their J-series firmware, and we are currently tweaking Mezzmo to deliver them in the (proprietary) way that Samsung wants. A workaround is for Mezzmo to burn subtitles into videos & this works fine, but we'd like to get streaming & displaying of external and embedded subtitles working.
    • All registered Mezzmo users will get Mezzmo v5.0 for free .
    • Mezzmo server does not remember your last played position on your DLNA devices, your DLNA devices do this. Mezzmo simply delivers whatever media file information that is requested by your DLNA device. And, Mezzmo server has no idea where the file is currently up to in terms of playback on a DLNA device, since DLNA devices buffer media file information from media servers.
    • Mezzmo server does support 4K video.
    • Mezzmo does support h.265 (HEVC) video
    • Mezzmo does have playlists to let you browse your TV series' episodes and know what has been watched (or not watched yet) and sorted by episode. You can also create your own playlists as you wish.

    Thank you for your answers.

So lets clarify - the profile you have in testing allows external subtitles without burning them, but you are still tweaking it ?
About the last played position - the Samsung Link software does that and also some others (can give name if you want) and this is stored in database on pc, here is some info :

    POST /upnp/control/ContentDirectory1 HTTP/1.0
    HOST: 192.168.100.100:52235
    CONTENT-LENGTH: 339
    CONTENT-TYPE: text/xml;charset="utf-8"
    USER-AGENT: DLNADOC/1.50
    SOAPACTION: "urn:schemas-upnp-org:service:ContentDirectory:1#X_SetBookmark"

    <s:Envelope xmlns:s="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" s:encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/"><s:Body><u:X_SetBookmark xmlns:u="urn:schemas-upnp-org:service:ContentDirectory:1"><ObjectID>46</ObjectID><PosSecond>58</PosSecond><CategoryType>10</CategoryType><RID>0</RID></u:X_SetBookmark></s:Body></s:Envelope>

And one other thing really important for me that I forgot the first time - auto refresh content database when new content is added without need to restart or refresh with some button in server.

P.S. I have installed the trial and tested some things. The last position is actually saved which is very good. It scanned the library quite fast even though it is big. To my surprise the artwork is fetched for everything even for a tv show I did not hope.
But a major problem is the auto refresh of content. Yes there is auto refresh, but not very persistent. I tried to wait as long as possible just to not get my hopes up. Deleting a file removes it from library fast enough. I have altered a name of a video file and the change was there after some time. But I have added a subtitle to a video and after 1 hour it is still not there - this is what I'm used to be instant.

2nd P.S. I tried adding a video file - it is in library fast. But the subtitles are a problem, added another subtitle file, refreshed the folder in library, waited - still no subtitles. That worries me a lot to the point it is unusable. Yes I found out that if I go to properties of the video file and click on Update Subtitles it works, but this is not convenient at all and instant adding of subtitles works in other dlna servers.

    Some more answers:

    • We have a Samsung J-series device profile that allows burning of subtitles. We are presently working with several Samsung J-series TV owners to get external & embedded subs working.
    • Mezzmo does already support Samsung's bookmarking commands, so that you can resume from your last position on Samsung devices. Note: This is a proprietary Samsung command, so only Samsung devices support this.
    • The current version of Mezzmo (v4.1.3.0) lets you schedule a daily maintenance where Mezzmo will pick up any new files, changed files, delete files, etc. from your folders and Mezzmo library. In the upcoming Mezzmo v5.0, you will have much more control over this. You can set a "Refresh Interval" for each of your folders in your Mezzmo library so that you can have particular folders to be automatically checked for new files, changes, etc. every [X] minutes (where you can set the [X] interval as you wish). For example, you can have your TV series folder set to be checked for changes or new files every 5 minutes.
    • Subtitles will be picked up when you add your files into your Mezzmo library, or when you maintain your library/playlist/files, or when you click "Update Subtitles" button on the Properties dialog. The addition of the "Refresh Interval" for folders in Mezzmo v5.0 will also pick up new, changed or deleted subtitles at any interval your desire.

Thank you. That is all the info I needed.
I will be waiting for more info when the profile is ready to be used on J series with external subtitles without burning.
And about the subtitles I think the change in 5.0 will be enough at least if this Refresh each X minutes updates subtitles as well, because as I said now refresh on folder does not do that.
