    Default Transcoding and duplication?

    Hey there,

So the server that I run mezzmo on is extremely weak and transcoding, at best, runs at about 6fps when streaming from a bluray image. It isn't enough to watch in realtime, so I need to pre-transcode. However, I noticed something I didn't expect. I have two Samsung Bluray players which we use in different parts of the house. I set up the pre-transcode settings to be exactly the same for both. I clicked the option "Only pre-transcode files that have not been pre-transcoded yet". However, I end up with two identical copies of the movie in the transcode folder. Their filenames are slightly different, but they are 100% the same.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this an oversight of the development team? I have a total of 7 DLNA clients that will access this server, all of which will use the same pre-transocode settings... I really don't want 7x 7GB video files that are all the same, for every movie I own.

Edit: On the same note, can I manually pretranscode files and have Mezzmo use them? Like encode with handbrake and tell mezzmo which files to use when?

Mezzmo creates different transcoded files depending on the device profile assigned to your device. Check that your 2 Samsung Blu-ray players are using the same device profile and then they should share the same transcoded files.

If you wish to use the pre-transcoded file as the actual file in your Mezzmo library, then right-click on the video in Mezzmo and click Properties. On the Properties dialog, go to the Transcoding tab and select the transcode files from the list and click the "Save As" button to save the file to a location on your computer. Then you can add this file into your Mezzmo library (using 'Add To Library' -> 'Add Files...' toolbar button) and remove the original file from your Mezzmo library by selecting it in Mezzmo and pressing the DEL key.

The problem is, the profile for the 2 players is "Samsung HTS" for the living room (home theater system) and "Samsung BDP" for the bedroom (Bluray Disc Player). Its default format for *both* players is Matroska, h264, ac3. Regardless the fact that this format DOES NOT WORK, they should both pre-transcode to the same file, being that their outputted files are identical (ignoring the identical binary file data) and their corresponding ffmpeg command line parameters.

So I manually specify mpeg, mpeg2video, ac3 as the format for both players, but it creates two files, just like the default pre-transcoding options did.

So, the only reason I get two files is because of the name of the profiles? Is there some means to change the profile of a DLNA device?

Edit: Nevermind. Found it under Device Settings of Media Devices

Glad you found how to change the device profile for a device .

For others reading this thread wishing to know how to do this: In Mezzmo, go to the Media Devices dialog and edit your device. On the Device Settings dialog, change the device profile and click OK.
