Best mp4 converter

Hi I'm new to this forum. I currently have a trial version of Mezzmo running on Windows 7. I have just purchased
a Samsung 40c6900 led tv. The problem I have is trying
to get fastforward/rewind working. I noticed on other posts that some success has been had with MP4 files. Can
somebody please help and let me know which converter they have had success with and what profile they used. I have tried some MP4 converters with different profiles but with no luck. The files I am converting are avi and Vob.
