Thread: Setup Mezzmo Library

  1. #1

    Default Setup Mezzmo Library

I have told Mezzmo which MP3 folders I want to have monitored using "Set Up Your Mezzmo Library". I noticed that after it was finished processing "My Documents\My Music" folder was included in the processing. I don't want it used as it is my staging area where I do all of my prep work before adding it to my collection. I can not find where in Mezzmo it identifies which folders it is monitoring. I expected it to be in the "Set Up Your Mezzmo Library" screen, but when I open it, there are no folders listed. Not even the folders I originally set up.

    Kind of lost now.

    Thanks,
    Greg

I think I figured it out. I went into Music\Folders\My Music. Right clicked and selected Delete. I then told Mezzmo to also delete the files from the library.

I wonder though if it, and other default folders, should still be displayed in the "Set Up Your Mezzmo Library" or on some other screen.

After I removed the My Music folder, I checked the Genre playlists and noticed that it has kept some of the old genre's. When I navigate down, there are no music files so why does the genre still exist? I tried to delete the playlist but was told that it cannot be deleted as it is based on the library.

The "Setup Your Mezzmo Library" is just a helper dialog to let you quickly add a few folders that contain your media files - you can then add/edit/remove those folders from the Library. Mezzmo does not actually store what you've specified in that dialog since it's meant to be a one-off operation to get things into Mezzmo initially - after that you'll need to use the tree with folders to change/remove things (as you found out).

With the empty playlists - can you please run Maintenance and see if that fixes the issue?

    Hi Dennis,
The Maintain Library resulted in good news/bad news. It resolved my MP3 artwork issue. Unfortunately it did not resolve this playlist issue. I still have a playlist of Genre\AvantGarde\RGA. When I drill down there are no songs listed. Another playlist created with no songs is Genre\Folk/Rock\Joe South. Hope you have a solution.

I wonder if the problem could be because I have added some songs to the same drive that has my monitored music. While the songs are on the same drive, they are not part of the root folder, of the monitored folders, nor do I want them to be. They are not ready for primetime. They haven't been backed up, tagged properly, no artwork has been added, and they have not had their volume leveled.

As a side note, is the genre case sensitive? I have a country and a Country genre playlist. I have one song with the genre of country...I know, how could I do something so foolish? I will update the tag info and see if Mezzmo picks it up.

Looking forward to working with you on a resolution.

Can you please clarify a bit, because I'm not sure I got it right You've added some songs to a folder that is not a child of any of the monitored folders and it's being picked up by Mezzmo? And these are the songs that create those empty playlists? I'm just trying to understand this better, so that I could try and replicate it here. When you run Maintenance, did you choose "Remove" non-existing files as well or only "Update"? If you do the "Remove", does it clear out those empty playlists?

The keywords (such as Genre) are case-insensitive, so "country" and "Country" should be recognized as being the same.

    Hi Dennis,
I did add some songs to a different folder that was not being monitored, and it did have some AvanteGarde genre songs, so I thought maybe, but a number of other genres that were added to that folder, were not picked up. To be honest I don't really know what has happened. All I know is that a some genre related playlists have been created, and there are no songs within them. A playlist called "country" with one song was created and one called "Country" was created with the rest of my country tunes. When I click on the search tab, there is no AvantGarde genre.

Would an uninstall and reinstall resolve any of this?

Strange - can you please send your Mezzmo.db file to support (at) conceiva (dot) com so that we could check it out?

You can simply delete that file (with the server stopped and Mezzmo shut down) to clear out your library and start from scratch, but it would be interesting for us to investigate this first and get it fixed (if we can get the database from you).

    Hi Dennis,
The file was over 2 gb unzip, and 1.2 gigs zipped. My mailer won't accept a file that large. Unless you have an FTP site, I won't be able to send it to you. I have deleted all of the .db files and I am starting from scratch. I'll let you know the result when it is completed. Likely in about 2-3 hours.

The process completed. The mezza.db file is now only 1.1 GB in size. I didn't get all of the genre's that I had before. I did, however, get a rock and a Rock genre. I updated the tag of the one song to Rock and the rock genre disappeared.

So it looks like I am now good to go. I'll likely be making the purchase later this week.

Glad you've sorted it out - thanks for the "rock" vs "Rock" tip, we'll investigate this, as it should've treated that as same.
