Instead of a Windows license you could try ReactOS, this would at least remove the cost of the license.

The cont'd absence of a Mezzmo version for Synology NASes is something I also find increasingly irritating. I want to reiterate my repeat previous message to the folks at Conceiva that PCs are simply not mainstream for streaming servers any more!

For instance in my case I simply watched the usage of my classic PC as a DLNA-server vanish in the last 3 years. Streaming in my case has routinely become a task for my NAS. User interface are various Apple-devices throughout the house. While Mezzmo on my PC has lost none of its appeal for me I simply don't use it any more. This despite the fact that the DLNA software on my Synology NAS is far less comfortable to use than Mezzmo.

For most people PCs have turned into Laptops or Pads and aren't suited as Always-On streaming servers any more anyway.

Net-net: The Mezzmo business rationale for Conceiva must have slowly vanished by now.

I don't get the point why there is such lack-of-interest in providing a Mezzmo variant for NASes. This would be new licenses with associated license revenue for Conceiva. I have still not given up hope to get the power and ease of use of Mezzmo on my NASes one day.

Conceiva folks: If money is the primary road-block consider crowd-funding the NAS development. I would be one of your first signees for such an initiative.

I have to agree with @BeFi & @sonofjacob. The option to install Mezzmo on a Synology NAS would be a good one. There are other options, but I have used Mezzmo for quite a while now and it is definitely my preferred DLNA solution.
