Default Does running 'Maintain' do any SQL database maintenance, like a compact or reorg ?

I ask this because each time I add a new title to my library, I run maintain on the folder that the title is stored in.

I hesitate to turn on maintain because it only has the option to run daily, and I don't want to put extra wear on the drives if it can be avoided.

That being said, if the 'Maintain' process actually does back-end database cleanup, and it's recommended to keep the database running smoothly, then I will reconsider scheduling it.

There's no reason to run daily maintenance now with Mezzmo v5.0+. Previously, it was necessary so that Mezzmo would re-scan the folders you added into Mezzmo and pick up new files in your folders on disk and add them into your Mezzmo library.

For Mezzmo v5.0+, we've added a new "Refresh Interval" setting for folders and linked playlists that does this for you automatically now. It's much faster & more efficient. Right-click on a folder (or linked playlist) and click Properties. Scroll down the settings until you see Refresh Interval. This setting lets you tell Mezzmo how often you want Mezzmo to re-scan the folder (or linked playlist) to find new files. New files that Mezzmo finds are added to your Mezzmo library - including matching metadata & artwork - so they are ready for streaming.

Another advantage of Refresh Interval is that, whereas scheduled maintenance required that you keep Mezzmo (Windows) app running, Refresh Interval works for both Mezzmo (Windows) app and Mezzmo server - so you can close Mezzmo (Windows) app and just keep Mezzmo server running - and Mezzmo will update your folders automatically for you.

To answer your specific question, maintaining your library does do some database cleanup. So you may want to run this (say) once a month if you find that your Mezzmo library is getting large or slow to browse.

Also, when you display the Tools/Maintain Library dialog, there is a Tools tab on the Maintain Library dialog and on this tab is a Compact Now button. This button lets you optimize your Mezzmo library. Typically you don't need to do this - but you can try it from time-to-time if you feel your Mezzmo database files are getting too large.
