Default Question regarding the Android app and photo libraries

I have an photo library with over 1000 images in it. The old app would display the list of images with thumbnails and if I touched one, it would show the fullscreen image. Pretty darn intuitive. When I try to select an image with the new app, it seems to be building some sort of image playlist, and if I'm lucky, it might start displaying images after a while. More often than not, it just times out and asks me to close. While this playlist/slideshow feature is cute and all, sometimes I just want to see the one image. Am I just missing something? Better yet, can I just have the old app back?
