Question Newbie Questions / Mezzmo Windows / Sony Blu Ray

Enjoying Mezzmo, I have some Qs:

    Some background:
Running latest Mezzmo, on Windows 10

I only use Mezzmo for videos

Using a Sony USA Blu-ray Disc™ / DVD Player BDP-S370/BX37 as DNLA player

The Sony is hard wired to the router

My video files are on a WD MyCloud NAS which is hard wired to the router

    The Ethernet is 1 G

The laptop is on a 802.ac wifi .......excellent connectivity.

I have played with DNLA servers, Serviio (has issues connecting to my NAS), Townky (on the NAS and standalone .....some files "stutter" ) PlayOn (issues with aspect ratio).

On to Mezzmo...... I like the interface ........it connects to my NAS fine.

Q: When I browse via the Sony, is there a view / navigation that is by "folders"? I don't see one.....and for some reason, not all files show up under the alphabetical listing, unless I choose "all videos".......I have each movie in a folder of its own, and would prefer to browse by folder.

Q: Pre-transcoding (hope I don't need it...so far, no stuttering)....I would save the files on my NAS. When I go to stream.....do I choose the transcoded file, or the original ?

Q: If I add a video file / folder to the shared folder on the NAS, is it automatically scanned / found by the server, if not, what are the steps to re-scan to find.

Q: If I move a file around on the shared NAS folder, is it automatically re-scanned by the server.

    Thanks and Happy New Year.............

Glad you like Mezzmo . Some answers:

    1. When you add your files into Mezzmo, you can add them using "Add To Library" -> "Add Folder". This will replicate your exact folder structure on disk in your Mezzmo library. Mezzmo will stream this folder structure to your devices so you can browse them as you wish. On many Sony devices, when you are in (say) Video mode on your Sony device and you connect to Mezzmo server, then you will automatically enter the "Video" playlist of your Mezzmo library and not the top level (root) folder of your Mezzmo library. That may explain what you are seeing on your Sony device. One way to fix this is, in Mezzmo, drag and drop the folder you added from the top level root folder on top of the Video playlist so it is now placed under "Video" playlist. This should then be listed on your Sony Device.
    2. When Mezzmo transcodes a file, the transcoded file is associated with the original file and will be streamed instead of the original file when you stream it to a device that matches that transcoded files' characteristics. The transcoded file is a not new file that is listed separately in your Mezzmo library. To see any transcoded files for a file, then right-click on a file in Mezzmo and click Properties. On the Properties dialog, go to the Transcoding tab to view all transcoded files for this file.. All transcoded files are stored in your transcoded files folder. You can manage this folder using the Transcoding Settings dialog.
    3. If you have added a folder into your Mezzmo library, then you can set the auto refresh interval for the folder - i.e. how often you want Mezzmo to re-scan the folder in the background to find new files, etc. Right-click on the folder in the tree in Mezzmo and click Properties. On the Folder Properties dialog, scroll down until you see the Refresh interval setting.
    4. Moved files will be found by Mezzmo in the same manner that new files are found - i.e. via the refresh interval for your folders. Or, by doing a Maintain Library via the Tools menu.

    >> Thanks for the quick reply .................

1 When you add your files into Mezzmo, you can add them using "Add To Library" -> "Add Folder".

    >> I dragged the mapped folder (M on top of Video and now when I browse via the Sony, at the bottom of the browse by list is M: , with the folder structure showing.

You can manage this folder using the Transcoding Settings dialog.

    >> so far I haven't needed to Transcode .............good to know.

    >> When I r-click on M (after it has been dragged onto Video) and go to the Properties dialog, I do not see any scan setting ......the last area of the dialog is Sort By, followed by a picture then Change Backdrop............Same thing if I R-click on Video .........

    4. Moved files will be found by Mezzmo in the same manner that new files are found - i.e. via the refresh interval for your folders. Or, by doing a Maintain Library via the Tools menu.

    >> I can do the Maintain Library manually, but that seems to re-do the entire scan ........

Glad you are (mostly) up and running. When you right-click on a folder and click Properties to display the Folder Properties dialog, you should also see "Check folder for new files" checkbox*. See this FAQ from our Wiki - http://www.mezzmo.com/wiki/doku.php?...ary_up-to-date

*Note: This feature is available in Mezzmo Pro only. If you do not have Mezzmo Pro, then you will not be able to automatically update your folders with new files, etc. You will have to use Maintain Library dialog.
