    Default Roku App wishlist

With the arrival of the Mezzmo Roku app, I'm using it more and more often as it provides a consistent interface across my equipment. It's a great start but I think a couple tweaks would make this a killer app. Here are a few ideas for your consideration that resulted from my playing with the app:

Transcoding options (independent of Roku app wishlist)
    1. add an option to pre-transcode any new files added to a playlist to one or more specific devices. Most of my files seem to need to be pre-transcoded for my Roku3. Having to manually trigger this each time a file is added is a pain.

    2. add an option to automatically replace original content with pre-transcoded content. Because I'm streaming almost entirely to / through the Roku box, I'd like to have the option to minimize the storage duplication and keep only content targeted for it.

    Roku app wishlist
    1. when the Roku app starts, I'd like an option that uses a previously identified Mezzmo server automatically; don't ask me to select it or to search for another. If the previously identified server can't be found then give me the option to search for one.

    2. provide a way to rate the content (video, music and photos) through the Roku app. Ratings are displayed but I don't believe they can be modified.

    3. provide a way to set the Mezzmo screensaver timing to something other than 5 minutes

    4. add an option to display selected metadata during photo screenshow (Eg file name, date, etc) as an overlay or defined area on the screen.

    5. the UI for streaming music playlists is static. The UI should be updated to highlight the song currently being played and/or it's position within the playlist
      • Assuming the static UI issue is fixed: provide an option to override both the Mezzmo and Roku screensaver so that when playing music the metadata info is displayed.

    Thanks!

    Hi,
thanks for the feedback, we have had a few requests for the automatic pre-transcode option in the past so we will have another look to see how we might implement this.

Replacing or modifying original files is something we try to avoid because we don't want to create the situation where a users movies might be deleted or replaced by accident or with an incomplete transcoded file. We could add support for this but with a big warning stating 'use at your own risk'. Another issue is that Mezzmo only transcodes one audio stream from the original video and if the original has multiple audio streams in different languages then this would be lost by replacing it. Possibly this feature could copy the file to the same folder with an extra word in the filename to indicate it was transcoded by Mezzmo so that the user can decide to delete the original after reviewing the transcoded file.

    Roku app wishlist:
    1. Good suggestion, the Mezzmo android app does this so we can add this to the Roku app also.
    2. We can look into adding this, possibly using the * button on the remote when the item is selected and show a dialog to rate it.
    3. The screensaver timing is set in the Roku System settings, Mezzmo has no control over this so if you want a longer timeout go to the System settings on the Roku and under screensaver change the timeout.
    4. Nice idea, we will investigate adding the metadata to the photo slideshow.
    5. Another good idea, currently the music playback has no UI so we will look at adding something to show the current song.

That would probably be the best option. Maybe a separate folder, at the same tree level, with a similarly modified folder name + extra word?
