With the arrival of the Mezzmo Roku app, I'm using it more and more often as it provides a consistent interface across my equipment. It's a great start but I think a couple tweaks would make this a killer app. Here are a few ideas for your consideration that resulted from my playing with the app:
Transcoding options (independent of Roku app wishlist)
- add an option to pre-transcode any new files added to a playlist to one or more specific devices. Most of my files seem to need to be pre-transcoded for my Roku3. Having to manually trigger this each time a file is added is a pain.
- add an option to automatically replace original content with pre-transcoded content. Because I'm streaming almost entirely to / through the Roku box, I'd like to have the option to minimize the storage duplication and keep only content targeted for it.
Roku app wishlist
- when the Roku app starts, I'd like an option that uses a previously identified Mezzmo server automatically; don't ask me to select it or to search for another. If the previously identified server can't be found then give me the option to search for one.
- provide a way to rate the content (video, music and photos) through the Roku app. Ratings are displayed but I don't believe they can be modified.
- provide a way to set the Mezzmo screensaver timing to something other than 5 minutes
- add an option to display selected metadata during photo screenshow (Eg file name, date, etc) as an overlay or defined area on the screen.
- the UI for streaming music playlists is static. The UI should be updated to highlight the song currently being played and/or it's position within the playlist
- Assuming the static UI issue is fixed: provide an option to override both the Mezzmo and Roku screensaver so that when playing music the metadata info is displayed.
Thanks!
