Thread: Just a suggestion

I don't know if it is just me but there seems to be a trend these days among TV manufacturers that as their products get smarter they seem less and less able to publish actual technical specifications about their products beyond anything but the very superficial. This seems to be particularly true about their support for audio/video codecs supplied to their TV's over wired /wireless connections. Is there a chance that Mezzmo might pick up some the slack here and publish a table in the forum of the TV's they provide tested profiles for and what audio/video codecs can be natively supported ? Also which formats will require transcoding. Other useful things to know would be if support of a Mezzmo server was supported out of the box or would an app need to be installed ( maybe even a specific Mezzmo app if one was available for that manufacturer/model ) .

To create and maintain a table such as this would be a large amount of work so it is unlikely we will find the time for this. If the TV runs Android then it is likely an app will need to be installed and the supported codecs depend upon the app used.

Most TV manufacturers have always been slack in providing codec/container support information and it has been largely a matter of testing streaming a file to a device to see if it is supported. You are welcome to create a table and encourage the Mezzmo user community to keep it updated with their own device information as to what codecs are supported.

I'm sorry to hear that , although I understand. I just hoped that you already had all this information in your existing device profiles and that publishing it therefore was not a significant effort . There would be a mutual benefit in doing so ; your users would have more confidence about what they could expect from Mezzmo and if there was an opportunity for community feedback you would have a place where you could be notified of device capabilities which you could incorporate in your profiles. One hand washes the other.

The information is already in the profiles for the currently supported devices but extracting this into a presentable form of a table will take quite a bit of time.
