Thread: DownloadStudio not remembering the list of files to download

Default DownloadStudio not remembering the list of files to download

    Hi Peter
I am using 10.0.4.0 and it is working very well.
However, I still have a small problem that existed in 10.0.3.0 as well.
If I load DLS with a set of files and have to shutdown and restart my computer, more times that not, it will have forgotten the list of files that I have added and remember some files from a previous session.
I have tried clearing the folders in both my C:\Users\chris\AppData\LocalLow\Conceiva\DownloadS tudio and in C:\Users\chris\AppData\Roaming\Conceiva\DownloadSt udio and this solves the problem for the next reboot but the problem then returns.
I resort to exporting the job list to XML everytime I add a bunch of files so that if I have to reboot, I don't lose the list.
For info, its Windows 10 1709 x64 Enterprise and the machine is left on 24/7 with a UPS.
Any ideas on how to solve this.
    Kind regards
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
DownloadStudio writes the file list to the database when exiting so if you don't exit DownloadStudio before rebooting then Windows may kill the process and prevent DownloadStudio writing to the database. Can you please try exiting DownloadStudio from the File menu before reboot to see if the problem still occurs?

    Hi Peter
If I shutdown DS from the tray icons amd then restart the machine, the list of files is preserved correctly. The sort order isn't preserved but that isn't a problem.
So knowing this, does this mean that the shutding down of the computer is either not shuting DS down correctly or is something else going on?
    Kind regards
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
there may be other programs running at shutdown time that are taking longer to exit and this is delaying DownloadStudio's shutdown so that it does not have enough time to write the list to the database or Windows is not giving the application enough time before forcibly terminating the application.

Is it possible to issue a command to gracefully shutdown DS so that I could put a scheduled command in the task scheduler to shtudown DS on user logoff and/or machine shutdown?

Yes - you can specify an XML-based script on the command line. See this example:
    Code:
    downloadstudio.exe "<downloadstudio><script><exit_downloadstudio /></script></downloadstudio>"

    Hi Paul
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I will add this as a scheduled job and see what happens.
Is there any documentation about other commands that can be passed as XML to the executable?

    Hi Paul
I have tried this but when this command is executed, it generates a Crash Dump for DownloadStudio rather than exiting gracefully.
    Am I doing something wrong?
