pass through is not currently supported by the Mezzmo app's internal video player, you can try using MX Player instead of the internal video player (go to settings in the app to disable the internal video player) to see if that supports pass through or use the Kodi app with the Mezzmo plugin.

I've just run into this issue. I was using VLC on the Shield, which does pass through multi-channel audio to my receiver, but on some films VLC will change the aspect ratio to fill the screen, rather than letterbox it. I can't find anything in VLC's settings to change this behaviour, so I'm alternating between VLC and the internal player, depending on the film.
Are there plans for the internal player to do pass through?
Cheers,
Marty Davey.
The Mezzmo internal player uses IJKPlayer as a video player which does not currently support passthrough for audio, there are some discussions on GitHub about how to implement passthrough but we have not had time or a device that supports passthrough to try it.

I've just tried MX Player and it does what I want - passes through the multi-channel audio and doesn't alter the aspect ratio - and it looks quite customisable. The free version works just fine, but I think I'll give them the few dollars for the Pro version, as a way of saying thanks.

Marty Davey.
The Mezzmo android app now uses libVLC as the video player which supports passthrough but we are unable to test this here, please join the beta https://play.google.com/apps/testing...iva.mezzmo.pro if you would like to try passthrough
