    Default Problem Handling Large Library

    This nice link (http://www.mezzmo.com/wiki/doku.php?...pro_comparison)
says "Unlimited number of files in Mezzmo library"

Indexed ca 780k of music files, and the server just don't work.,.
If I try to browse the folder structure it just timeouts..

I tried working in the Messmo application itself, and from BubbleUpnp with the same result..

    Any recommendations ?

    Hi,
could you please go to your Mezzmo database folder (see options in Mezzmo for the location) and add the Mezzmo.db file to a zip and send it to us so we can try to reproduce the problem here? You can upload it to dropbox or wetransfer and send a download link to support [at] conceiva [dot] com

Was there any resolution to Gwild's issue? I have a lot of music files also... not as many as he has! About half as many. I purchased Mezzmo Pro but haven't started using it yet. I want to see what problems there are (if any) before I dive in. This thread caught my eye. Thanks.

The issue can be resolved by reducing the number of folders/artists at each level, so grouping by first letter or genre. This reduces the number of containers to be returned when you browse the library and helps to prevent timeouts.

Hmmm. I think I would call this a workaround instead of a resolution. Peter, I don't mean to be impolite, but it sounds like you're saying that Mezzmo Pro can handle unlimited files so long as the folder structure is set up so as not to return too many "containers"?

My music library has 2 primary root folders, with a typical Artist/Album structure underneath. The larger of the 2 root folders has 7278 artist folders within it, a number that increases gradually over time. Would that be considered "too many"? Just wondering. I haven't tried it.

To be fair, I haven't yet found an app of this type that doesn't choke in one way or another on libraries of this size. I was hoping Mezzmo would be different, based on the marketing claim.

The timeouts depend upon the client device used, the Mezzmo app on android can handle large folders with thousands of artists but other devices have limits. Some TVs will limit you to a few hundred folders per level while others will try to load them all and timeout. Mezzmo can handle the large libraries but it is the devices that have problems when browsing the files, in Mezzmo you can customize your playlists to be displayed how you like and also browse your folder structure but this can create problems on some devices. The active playlists in Mezzmo support dividing your artists based upon the first letter so this allows supporting browsing on devices where the number of folders is limited.

Peter, that's an important clarification. Thank you for that. I hadn't really thought about where the technical choke points might be.

I was intending to use Mezzmo with the Roku app on a Roku Ultra, and also, potentially, with the Android app on a tablet or smartphone.

The Roku App may run out of memory if you try to load 7000 playlists under one container, using the party shuffle playlist is a good way to play music as it will pick from all the artists in your library and just display a random limited selection. You can customize the party shuffle playlist or make your own for certain genres or artists also.
