Question Downloads through web interface renames files with taz prefix

    Hi.

When my family access my media server through the web interface and select the "Download Original File" option from the Media Properties page, the files are always renamed with a "taz" prefix, e.g. taz1l0z5l107l163zvl8153x06b6.mp4. This happens irrespective of the actual file name on the server, and it also happens if I use the web interface locally.

Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing that controls this, or is there a way of serving them with the actual filename?

    Thank you,
    Frantic.

    Hi,
there is currently no way of serving the files with the original name, the name in the URL contains ids and codes for the server to find the file in the database and this is not possible using the filename. We could investigate adding support for this using a special header that tells the web browser the name of the original file.

    Hi Peter,

Thanks for the quick response. That would be a good thing to have as part of a future upgrade, thank you. When are you guys planning on releasing the next version of Mezzmo?

    Thanks,
    Frantic.

There are no plans yet on when the next version will be released, the beta version is still being tested and is doing well.

    Thanks Peter.

I've asked a couple of questions recently that you've suggested may be reasonable additions to functionality. Do you need me to raise them again in the feature requests forum or will they have been recorded?

    In short, they are:

    - Ability for web interface users to also be able to download external subtitle files when available.
    - Web interface users to be provided with the original filename when downloading rather than viewing.

    Thanks,
    Frantic.

I have added them to our internal list of features to be added so there is no need to add them to the feature requests forum.
