Default 4k downgraded to FHD on SONY KD-55A8F

    Hi,

I just bought a SONY KD-55A8F and wanted to play a 4k movie with MEZZMO.

MEZZMO needed to transcode but the outcome was note at all in 4k. I looked at the FFmpeg reports and noted that the 4k resolution was downgraded after the transcoding :

    Original file :

    Stream #0:0(eng): Video: hevc (Main 10), yuv420p10le(tv, bt2020nc/bt2020/smpte2084), 3840x1608 [SAR 1:1 DAR 160:67], 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 1k tbn, 23.98 tbc (default)

    Transcoded file :

    Stream #0:0[0x100]: Video: h264 (High) ([27][0][0][0] / 0x001B), yuv420p(progressive), 1920x804 [SAR 1:1 DAR 160:67], 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 90k tbn, 47.95 tbc

I tried to put the resolution at the maximum in the device parameters but it did not change anything.

I also noted that the most sony updated version is the "2015 model": I don't see any updated version (a 4k ? high resolution ?), is it normal ?

Thanks to find the log in attachment. Thanks in advance for your support !

The max resolution is set in the mpeg container when transcoding so the maximum resolution set in Device Settings is not used. You should use the Conceiva Mezzmo (Android) profile for the TV since it uses Android TV and then you will be able to set the maximum resolution in Device Settings to 4K.

    Thanks for your reply.

I have chosen the Conceiva (android) profile. Can you please confirm that my device parameters (screen 1) and pre-transcode formats (screen 2) are well selected to have a 4k transcoding ?

    Thanks !

Yes, this looks fine for 4k transcoding but transcoding may not be required depending upon which app you use on the TV. The Mezzmo app supports many formats and codecs without transcoding so you can try this to see if the 4k video works correctly.

    Peter,

What about the Bitrate Maximum set to 750kbps. Is that enough for 4K?
    Cheers,

750kbps is quite low and may result in blocky pixelated video, you should increase this to at least 1.5Mbps
