Thread: Ipod App that works with Mezzmo

  1. #1

Question Ipod App that works with Mezzmo

Does anyone know of an iPod touch app that works with Mezzmo that lets you watch videos on the iPod touch? I tried Media Link Player Lite but it does not see the Mezzmo server..

Video support is always iffy on iOS, because of how Apple handles video. However Media Link Player Lite should definitely be able to see your Mezzmo server - I use it myself to stream music from Mezzmo to my iPod Touch. Sometimes, you need to look into the background apps running on the iPod, kill MLPL (if it's already running) and restart it.

I got both MLPL and PlugPlayer to see the Mezzmo server.. I figured out how to open port 53168 on my Linksys E300 router.. That seemed to fix the connection problems.. I am only able to play .m4v files on the iPod.. Is that the way it works or do I need to change something else to transcode the videos?

Yes iPod, iPad and iPhone are real limited in their ability to play files. (I wish they would support .mkv). Both apps do have profiles for them. It looks like the will transcode some formats into h264/mp4/aac format required. First make sure that the correct profile is selected for the player you want. If it still won't play/transcode the file please post the ffmpef file info on a file of the type you want to play. I am certain that a profile will automagically be created for you.

Do you mean the ffmpef file info of the type of file I want to play in the "Sticky: FAQ: How to get FFmpeg information about a file" above?

Dennis might correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe the issue there was that the WHOLE file has to be transcoded for any iOS-based player to be able to play it, as some file information has to be stored at the end of the media file.

So is it possible to play say an .mkv file on an iPod touch through Mezzmo?

Yes, RMerlin is right - the whole file has to be transcoded first because a MOOV ATOM needs to be written at the beginning of the file for it to be playable on the iOS and that can only be done after transcoding is finished, because it contains information about the whole file, which is not known until transcoding is done.
