Slow song transition

I am brand new to Mezzmo and DLNA type products so my issue could very easily be user error. I am running Mezzmo on a custom built machine running XP. It is a 3.25GHz AMD Phenom II Quad Core with 4GB of RAM. I have it connected (hardwired) to a WRT54G router. I have a Sony BDP-S570 blu-ray player that is also hardwired to the same router (it has built in wireless, but I prefer the wired setup).

The issue I am having comes when I play MP3s ( have not tried movies yet, pictures seem to work ok). There is along delay (about seven seconds) from the time the song is selected on the blu-ray until the time the song actually starts playing. If you are the middle of a song and want to advance to another song, it is another 7 second delay. Even at the end of a song, it will take the same time to go to the next song and start playing. I am guessing this should not be happening. Any idea what the problem might be? I have not ruled out the blu-ray player, but I thought I would start here since I am new to DLNA stuff.

It sounds like it might be transcoding the file. That is converting it to a format the Sony can play. The BDP series can only play mp3 and wav (particular format) files. If your files are different than the server is converting them for you. If you open Mezzmo gui highlight one of the files, right click and select Get FFMPEG info. Post that here and we can confirm it. The Sony products only support a very narrow list of files via DLNA. Movies will need to be in mpeg2 or mpeg 1 format with ac3 audio. The container files could be VOB, m2ts or mkv. Other formats will be transcoded (which can take a while with hd content). But once transcoded the files are kept until you delete them.

I also have the bdp-570 and am experiencing the same problem.
If the song is playing, I exit the player and select the same song, it takes 7 seconds again to start playing.
Is it possible to see if mezmo is transcoding?

The easiest way is to start a song playing. Then bring up task manager and see if ffmpeg is running. If it is you are transcoding (assuming that some other app is nor running it).

Here is the info from FFmpeg. When I play the song below FFmpeg is not running in the task bar. Thanks for any insight you might be able to provide.

Well my 370 is also taking a while to start playing. Things I can think of:
1. ffmpeg will not appear on the taskbar You would need to start the task manager and look at running processes
2. It 'could' be that Sony has decided to buffer the song before playing
3. If your network cable is going upstairs the bits could slow down because of gravity. (That was a joke, you know anti-gravity 8^)

Nothing else is popping into my head.

Both of those MP3s fit the device profile (Sony BDP), so they should not be transcoded. Please go to Media Devices dialog in Mezzmo and check which device profile is used for the BDP - it should be one of the "Sony BDP" ones.

We'll do some testing here as well on our S370 and see if it also happens here. You are using the latest released Mezzmo v2.1.11, right?

Sorry, I mean't to say it doesn't show in the task manager.

Under Media Devices it is Sony BDP (NTSC No Divx). Guessing since I am playing music and not videos the Divx part probably doesn' matter.
