Some MKVs Play...others not recognised

I've been busy ripping my DVDs using both Mezzmo and DVD Fab 5 then converting to .MKV using Make MKV. However some files play with no sound when using Mezzmo and I have to use DVD Fab to Rip them so they work.

And some ripped/converted DVDs show on the Sony 32W5710 screen under Mezzmo as being there, and as MPEG2 which I assume is what Mezzmo will transcode to, but when selected I get a "file not found" message. They play Ok on the desktop and are clearly labeled as .MKV and all in the same folder as .mkv files that are found and played on the TV.

On National Lampoons Christmas Vacation I get the opening shot on the Thumbnail on the TV so it must be seeing something it recognises....but when I select, as above, I get that File Not Found. In fact I have tried 3 more DVDs and none of the File can be found after converting with MakeMKV yet the files are clearly there on the TV screen and play OK on the PC. Both Mezzmo and MakeMKV are trial versions. It would seem to be some sort of "path" problem but why can teh TV/Mezzmo see them on screen, know all the details of the files such as size and aspect ratio yet when play selected not find it ?

Help..please...desperate to buy the product but not if this is a bug

The Sony may be having problems with DTS audio. Make sure you only use the AC3 stream. If you want to get the best dvd tool goto http://www.slysoft.com/en/ (seriously I have had them for years).

Ok on one of the movies that can't be found it says the codec is a52 and on the ones that work it says spu but then on some of the other ones that won't be found it also says spu....but in fact they are all AC3

Just downloaded Mezzmo onto a laptop...burnt a movie and that can't be found either so it would look like the Sony....but that can't be as it sees and plays the earlier files without a problem...all very odd. Hopefully Mezzmo support has a fix buts here's the ffMpeg datat from one of the files that is visble on the TV but when selected says "No File Found"

You can try converting them to MKV the way I did and see if that helps.

It's possible that transcoding is failing (files will need to be transcoded from an MKV to MPEG-TS to be playable on the Bravia) - can you please turn on logging (see this thread: http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread...nostic-logging) then try playing that file again and once it fails, stop the server and send the logs to support (at) conceiva (dot) com for investigation.

I haven't a Sony TV, I've got a Samsung C7700, and I have the same problem.
I already played ... nearly 150 mkv Files, all worked, only 2 didn't. I don't know why, to help working on the problem that some mkvs are not transcoded, should I also log something and send it to you?

Yes, please post here or send us FFmpeg information on those files (in Mezzmo right-click on the file and use the "Get FFmpeg Information" command). We found that some files will not play, even if they should - this is because of some compression techniques used that we do not detect at the moment. Even Samsung's PCSM thinks those files are "native", when in fact they are not. We're actually going to improve this over time, so hopefully the end result will be that all of the files will be detected properly as support or not by the device.

Mine was a bit more extreme in terms of the amount of failures but within a day I was sent a new patch and its all fixed. Hopefully yours is the same but key to a product is the support. My $29 will be winging its way over....

What you need to look at is the device doing the DLNA. That could be the TV or a BD player or some other box. The important thing is that all of the codec used in a file are supported by that device.

For instance, your audio streams show DCA = DTS Coherent Acoustics. That I know will not work on the Sony. If it is not transcoded the Sony will not see it and will give the "File Not Found" error. The problem is that the file contains something taht can't be used even if you want to use the ac3. To work reliably you should check what your devices support. Find a common format and rip to that. In some cases that may not be practical, so you need to set up transcoding to "fill the gaps". Maybe transcode the dts to mp3 or ac3 if you cant get rid of it.
