Make the firestick version behave like the kodi plugin

Is there any way I can do this. I guess installing kodi is probably the only way to do this ? (I prefer the kodi plugin to the firestick version is all)

As far a I know loading Kodi with the addon is the only way. Peter may be able to weigh in here. The good news is that the Mezzmo Kodi addon and Kodi with Mezzmo is much less resource intensive on a Firestick running Kodi than in native mode with SMB shares and the like without Mezzmo.
